What are most people doing for water treatment (softener, filtering, etc.). Why? And how much did it cost? And finally, what company did you use?

If the water was good from your tap it wouldn't look like this in the filter, that filter would be as white as fresh snow.

Use the PUR filter on your kitchen faucet, change it every few months, and you will be happy. Our refrigerator also has a water filter cartridge for the thru-the-door dispenser.

No need to buy anything else but it is up to each person to decide what they want.

Seriously they are course filters at best, they don't do the job

They state the following "Running hot water through the filter will decrease the effectiveness of the filter. "

The water needs to be filtered at source as it enters the home, ie:cold

The cost of the Pur replacements is $25 4 times a year, the fridge filters are $40 twice a year, so $180 a year, but it still isn't filtering the whole house.

Look at Pelican Water Treatment.

Good website.

Unless you really want a softener, I don't think you need it. (Spoken by a guy that had a softener up North for 40 years).

You can spend $300 for just a filter, or $800 or $2,000 with Pelican.

We bought Sears whole house filter and a Sears water softener, had a plumber install, total cost, less then $1400. Result, we have soft water (my wife loves this), and the crystal comes out of the dishwasher looking like new without the need for Jet Dry or equal. Also, the water tastes great, no more bottled water!!!!!

well I submit there are problems simply viewing the contents of the filters show that.

To say you have no problems, perhaps it may be better stated no problems you know of.

I have to agree with the above poster. No need for a water softener. A whole house filter is the way to go. You can install it yourself. Parts can be bought at Lowes or Home Depot. Filter are very cheap and easy to change.

Well I don't think you're comparing apples to apples the HD lowes filter are small they do not have the carbon that is used in a Nova filter, additionally they are single cartridges that are paper thin.

Below is a comparison that small 10" by 2" is the type sold in the stores there are no sediment filters.

this is the difference with cartridges that are made with carbon made from coconut shells the best you can find, and two sediment cartridges, these need changing only when the built in pressure gauges tell you they need changing.

We have a whole house Pegasus water system for almost a year now and we love it! My dishes and flatware is clean and shiny, I don't need fabric softener anymore, and I'm sure my appliances are happy!! call Robert at 352-748-7873, and let him come over and test your water...you will be shocked.

We do not care for a water softener and believe that the body requires some of a water's minerals. Our water taste fine, it isn't leaving heavy deposits anywhere and our dishes come out spotless without adding a jet dry.

We do have a filter on our refrigerator.

Well, to be honest, I'm a Philly girl and didn't think anything was wrong with the water either. My husband is the "clean water" nut. I always thought it was a crock, until we went away on vacation and upon returning he was AGAIN complaining about the water. Me...tasted fine. So, we called Pegasus, and they came over and apparently the breaker had flipped, and the water wasn't being filtered. Now you might think the moral of the story is to trust your husbands judgement, but for me it's...check the breaker...hahaha!! Also, had some girls over, that live in the Villages and don't have a water filter and THEY were shocked by the shininess of my silverware and my dishes. Again...it took me a bit to notice it. As they say, to each their own. I am still just amazed by this system, as I didn't even want it to begin with. I love not having to use some products I always did, and don't have to worry about getting fridge filters anymore. Just my opinion....

If you feel the need to go with a water system, the ECO System is the ONLY one to buy. It's expensive but hands down -- beats all othr systems.

However, that being said, we previously had the ECO system. When we moved here we were all set to install the same thing again. So far, we have not done so. We have not found the need to have a system.

Our advice is to not do anything unless you feel you have a problem.

It's not cheap...ours was about $4000. We just decided to do it right as opposed to cheap. I think what pushed my husband over the edge with it tho, was we had just sold our home in SW Florida, but had to have it totally re-plumbed before we did so. Our pipes were full of gunk and starting to leak. To tune of about $5000. Now, why not wait and just replumb later? The taste and cleanliness factor, and everything I've said about the system, of course. The damage not being done to our appliances and subsequently my clothing and dishes, etc. AND...biggie....had we not caught that leak (I heard it in the wall) we would (could) have had major damage to our home. As it was, they had to cut out sections of wall to tie off some pipes. It was a headache and one less thing for me to worry about. OH, and the hubs loves the taste of the water. I've thrown 1 bag of potassium in the system in a year...$20. You can come and see it and taste the water, look in my dishwasher (still looks brand new) and washer, etc. if you're interested.

I have not heard of any home in TV being re-plumbed, to do so would mean tearing out walls and the concrete slab.

You don't get build up of gunk in the pipes here, I have seen homes 15-20 years old without build up having no filters.

$4000 for a system is way over priced, if you have your mind set on a softener we have one with better specs for $1500.

Add the whole house filter to that it's still $1995.

But again as others have said they are happy with the whole house filter and more $$$ in their pocket.

here's an opinion from a recent customer;

Was planning to wait another week to report experience with my new Nova Filtration, but too excited. Could not believe the immediate difference (4 days). My clothes are softer, and smell cleaner. My shower has no chorine odor and my hair and skin is softer. I personally did a taste test, using my water and Dasani-could not tell the difference. Bob did a wonderful job with install, and I appreciate his honesty in explaining I did not need a softener. I was skeptical, but waited to order one later from him. He was correct, and I am happy with the filtration alone. $495 installed, versus the $3000-$6000 quotes from other guys!!! Thank you very much, Bob, and my gratitude, as well, for your honesty advising me to wait to see if I needed a softener. Highly recommend Nova Filtration to everyone! :bigbow:

Our ice cubes and water tasted bad, so my husband put in an inexpensive filter purchased at Lowes in the garage where the water comes in. so it really does the whole house. The filter easily gets changed every few months depending on our time there. We had to cut into the pvc pipes to attach it, but for under $100 we have good tasting water and ice now. He actually put one in a couple of neighbors houses and we learned about the system from 2 others, so I can confirm that there are 4 or 5 happy customers.

They did not use this "scare tactic". It was never mentioned by our salesman, it was OUR take on it. And, yes....even where I lived, it means tearing out walls and parts of the slab if it springs a leak. You make a good point tho, by saying they use PVC here, we had copper. I think you're mistaken thinking nothing will ever gunk up in PVC. I've had PVC lines gunk up in the water where I lived inside and outside the pipe. Then they run the pipes thru the attic. We got lucky, we only had a leak in the wall backing the garage, and I heard it. Still...quite a few hols had to be made in the drywall to junction the new pipes from the attic.
What I HAVE is a high quality whole house filter and softener, and I DO love it. Don't feel like we were ripped off, don't have to "change" any filters etc., and love the feel of the water. To each their own, but please don't infer we were coerced. Everyone on here trying to "sell" a system is saying the water needs to be filtered. To what extent is up to the homeowner to decide. If I had to do it over, based on what my neighbor's have and what I read on here...I'd do the same thing!

Besides all of the other junk in our water, we now have pharmaceuticals to worry about. Yes, judging from the color of the filter, one is needed and I also want a whole house filter -shower and bathroom sink. Yes I brush my teeth there and drink water. At the home expo in Lake Sumter Landing, there was a booth with water softeners and whole house filters. I lost the business card. Other than Sears does anyone know of other local companies? Thanks
