Our dear dog Sport had a second heart failure while he was running and barking at the dogs in the Agility Area at Doggie Doo Run Run on Sunday morning March 23, 2014. They have put up a privacy fence on much of the entrance areas of the dog park but there still is a small area where dogs of various sizes can run the fence and bark at one another.

The staff at Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital Monday, March 24, 2014 did a wonderful job of putting Sport back on the route of being able to visit Doggie Doo Run Run again even if I will have to be very careful about just where he tries to get his excitement. As one friend from the dog park e-mailed me, as we age we cannot do all the things we did when younger. Especially if there is a heart condition involved.

While at Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital, we also ran into a dog Semper Fi who had been injured in a dog fight that does occur upon occasion at Doggie Doo Run Run. Sometimes dogs get a little too protective of their masters, mistake the other dogs for rabbits and run them down as happened to Sport around 2007 during his first Summer at Doggie Doo Run Run, or just do something to set one another off on a tear.

Thanks to the staff at the Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital. One of the owners at Doggie Doo Run Run, Laura, was also a wonderful help in providing aid when Sport had his heart failure. Not sure about others, but there is a litte bit of shock that goes in when your pooch falls over and stops breathing for a period of time even if-- so far-- he comes back.

glad to hear Sport is doing well. My dog also went into heart failure and pulmonary edema recently. Buffalo Ridge at Pinellas got her on meds and she's back for now....Dr. Rakes was great.

Here's to many more years for Sport. What a scare for you, and how lucky to have such good veterinary care nearby.

Our dogs and kitties are true family members in our eyes. I'm glad to hear your pup got such good care and is still with you.

Glad Sport is doing well and best wishes for good health going forward. And yes, Dr. Rakes is terrific...as is Dr. Vernon. Feel confident you are in very good hands.

We have one of the other Buffalo Ridge vets. She is very capable and fun to talk to even if my mother often likes to go too unless she is golfing or playing bridge or doing one of her other many Villages' activities.

One problem with Sport's recovery is that our Carbon Monoxide Detector's battery went out which caused quite a lot of noise painful to Sport's ears and was not very conducive to a quiet environment.
