trash pickup

I have a question. Today was trash pickup day. So I had my regular trash out in the corner of my driveway by the street. I also had one of those tall brown paper bags used only for yard waste. Mine was full of leafs. I decided to put it out also today and place it on the other corner of my driveway. That way I wouldn't have to go out early tomorrow to put it out. Finally about 2:45 the crew came thru and picked up my regular trash but they also took my big yard bag full of leafs. I could not believe they took it. Surely they had to know it was yard debris. Has anyone else had this happen. I am glad they got the leaf bag out of there but did I jump the gun and do something wrong?

The garbage men takes our yard waste along with our trash. They are put in the same truck. Only recycling gets picked up separate. At least that is how it's done in the lake county side of the villages.

Here's the trash pick up schedule for Sumter and Marion County. Depending on where you live, your trash and recycling pick up days are different but yard waste is always on Wednesday mornings. If you leave yard waste out on your regular trash day, they will pick it up as regular trash and dump in in the same truck.

Information I was given at closing says to not put out until after 6PM. This is good as it keeps the streets from looking "trashy." In Sumter County I believe they leave yard waste put out for the wrong day.

As to Lake County, it's complicated -- recycling is on Wednesdays for everyone; other trash (including lawn/grass items) are picked up on scheduled trash days.

Plus if you put your trash out 2 days before scheduled pickup, you've just alerted the 'bad guys' that you won't be home.

Today was my recycling day in Silver Lake and the crew never came through to pick-up!!! Glad the trash guys came in the morning though!

If Tuesday is your regular trash pickup day, they will usually pickup whatever is left out. If you put out a recycle bag, they will probably take that, too. It will all be thrown in the regular garbage. It will not be recycled.
Yard waste is picked up on Wednesday throughout the Villages. These trucks go around and ONLY pick up lawn bags. Yard trash should only be left out after 9pm on Tuesday night.

I myself, appreciate the great service they provide!!! Cleanliness and neatness seems to be a priority here in The Villages. We get our moneys worth!!
