We finally got our visit to TV set up for the end of April. We hope to see many things and learn even more. Is there any one here from New Jersey? I would love to speak with you. Thanks.

There are many people from New Jersey in The Villages. There's even a New Jersey club. Here's a link to all the clubs with contact telephone numbers.

We are in Watchung but have lots of family in both Point Pleasant and Brick. Do you fly or drive or both? If you fly, is it always to Orlando? We will be visiting for the first time but traveling (flying) through Tampa to see relatives in Clearwater. Are there better/worse times to fly from NJ to FL? Have you ever flown from PA?
Thanks.

Son and his family have flown into both Orlando and Tampa. Drive from Tampa is a little longer but they prefer the longer drive over the crowds at Orlando, but Orlando has a lot more flights choices. We like to drive but when we must, we fly in and out of Orlando. I think it comes down to personal choice.

We drive since we are both retired, have been doing the trip for years to visit family and Disney and we enjoy a leisurely trip looking for all the things that change from year to year. We now have family in each of the Carolinas so we have added overnights there, too! Neither of us enjoys flying and will likely hop aboard Amtrak if the driving ever gets to be a burden.
Our NJ snowbird friends always fly - from Atlantic City on Spirit airlines because of the low, low rates they can get with some $9 club that Spirit has - only goes into Orlando or West Palm Beach. Both couples have golf carts and one has a car, so transportation once they are shuttled here from the airport there is no transportation issue.
Best time to fly here - whenever the rate is low enough. Worst time to fly here - holidays, spring break and NJ teacher convention week! Fares are highest and deals are not as easy to find - requires flexibility!
Only one friend ever flew from PA - Southwest out of Philadelphia. Good flight but one needs to be familiar with the '3 line boarding procedure' if SW is still using that.
What with where you live, my guess is that Newark is your easiest airport and Jet Blue the airline. I'd suggest you look into what JB might offer for a frequent flyer program. We also have friends that have been known to take the train into Newark and then hop the train that stops at the airport - they then ride the tram to the terminal. Takes as much time to do that as the flight takes! I don't include that as a travel suggestion unless one is looking for a different kind of adventure! Of course, another adventure if one wanted to use Atlantic City airport would be to book a hotel room the nite before one's flight and the night of one's arrival - more fun than taking the train to Newark I'd say! But I do believe the cost of long-term parking @ the A C airport has increased quite a bit since our friends bought here 8 yrs ago.

Hansel & AlanMacdonald: How many times did you visit before you became full time Villagers?
We previously lived in south Florida, but moved back north to be near the grandchildren. After the first winter we realized that was a BIG mistake. We knew we did not want to go back to the HOT south Florida so we rented in different places for the winter. One year we rented in New Smyrna Beach and drove over to the Villages for a day. It was Chili cookoff day and we could not believe everything that was going on so we made plans to rent the following winter. Came down for December, January and February and by the beginning of January picked out a home site and house to be built, Went back, put the NJ house up for sale and the rest was history. At times I miss the family and friends we left but the weather is perfect for us and the activities are there if we choose. Worked all our lives and now is OUR TIME. Hope all works out for you, feel free to contact us when you are here.

This gave my wife and I a very nice laugh. Our son, who is now 21, LOVED Florida primarily for all the theme parks. We visited many times over the years. One year we were at Disney and every person that was called on stage or asked to participate in anything was from New Jersey. We met a number of families we knew from NJ that week. Yes, as you pointed out, it was the week of the teacher convention!
Thanks for all of the information.

At times I miss the family and friends we left
This is our primary hesitation. We have most of our large family still in NJ. Do you get many people to visit you in Florida? Do you come back to NJ (and where do you stay if you do)? Thanks.

The only family we have is a son/stepson in Nj with a wife and 2 girls. Generally they come down once a year to visit. We only go up for special occasions now(holy communion etc)and stay with the kids but only for a few short days. We have two very old dogs and one is a biter so if hard for us to travel. When we first moved to south Florida we have a lot of company, but as the years went by we lost touch with some friends and some friends also relocated. For us Florida is the best choice but everyone has to decide for themselves. But if you hang around for the grandhcildren they hit a certain age and then dont have time to spend with you and at that point you might not be able to move, so carefully give all options consideration. What ever you decide will be the right choice for you and your famiy.

Hi,
We are from Little Silver NJ, in Monmouth County near the beach. We moved to FL 5 years ago and to the Villages one year ago. We love it here.
We still visit NJ often driving for a week or two and sometimes longer in the summer. When we do fly we fly out of Orlando on Jetblue (we like the tv). We found Spirit became expensive when we added all their extra charges for choosing your seat, luggage etc.
Let us know when you are in the Villages, we would love to meet up!

As I've mentioned, we live in New Jersey. At the end of this month we will be making our first trip to TV. For the rest of you who USED to be from NJ, I thought you might enjoy knowing what you missed the last two days. On Monday the temperature was 83 degrees in central NJ. Monday night we had heavy rain. Tuesday afternoon we had hail. Tuesday evening wrapped up with snow!
