Woman airlifted after her vehicle plows through wall in St. James
March 26, 2014 By Meta Minton 2 Comments
A car went through this wall in the Village of St. James on Wednesday afternoon.
A female driver was injured after her car plowed through a residential wall at about 3 p.m. today in the Village of St. James.
She was airlifted from the scene for medical treatment.
The woman’s car went through the wall at Fairwind Villas and wound up on St. Charles Place, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Debris from the wall struck another vehicle and a person in that vehicle was injured.
The investigation has been turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol
Traffic was backed up in the area for most of the rest of the afternoon.
Community Watch was on the scene in the aftermath of the accident.

I looked at the photo on ************** and the wall was completely broken through. That car must have been going very fast in order to do that damage as well as to send wall debris flying with enough force to damage another car and a person in the second car.
I agree that the woman in the first car must have had a sudden medical emergency and her foot stomped on the accelerator. Hard to imagine but I can see how it could happen. Let's hope she recovers quickly and completely.

She probably has a police scanner.
I hope the woman involved in the accident is going to be back to good health soon.

I was driving on St. Charles when this happened and if I were two or three seconds slower I would have been hit with the exploding wall. It sounded like a bomb when the car went through the wall and the pieces flew across the road and hit the car going in the other direction. Thank God a golf cart wasn't going by at that time! The air bags in the other car were deployed and the ladies were standing outside of the car afterwards. They both were okay but one of the women said she thought she just had a broken finger. The women who went through the wall was pulled out of her car by several wonderful gentlemen who ran to her aid. She seemed seriously injured even though both air bags deployed. I can't imagine how fast the car was going when it went through the wall. I'm still shocked at what I heard and saw. All I remember was the loud boom and large and small stones flying all over the road. I do hope she will be okay.

That seems odd that the police would tell a stranger that right after it happened.

A suicide attempt???
That seems like a very strange and unlikely choice for a suicide attempt.

Crashing into a tree would have been more effective (suicide-wise) than going through a wall.

No matter the cause, how sad. It always surprises me what we don't know about our neighbor's lives and troubles. The wall is the least of the damage here.

I agree that it seems odd but less than a year ago there was a suicide scene I came across where the police told me that the guy committed suicide .

I am so glad you weren't hurt. Whew!! Such a frightening experience and to see it all happening in front of you.
How can we speculate on a method of attempting suicide? Someone doesn't always preplan that, its spontaneous, I would guess. For whatever, I hope the woman survives and gets some psychological help.

Maybe if it already happened, that might be different. It just seemed like with it being an observation, an officer shouldn't have made that statement.

Drove by the site this am in my golf cart on the way to Sea Breeze. Maintenance crews had already cleaned up all remaining debris and concrete block down to the foundation. In preparation for rebuilding the wall. Fast work! Wouldn't want any prospective buyers driving by and asking questions.
This area usually has heavy golf cart traffic with 2 rec centers and 4 executive golf courses in the immediate vicinity. Fortunate that none were passing by when the driver blew thru the block wall and ended up in the street. They wouldn't have stood a chance.

Reports today said the driver was emotional. That was no accident or medical issue.

Zoner. I would guess that all of the rest of the remaining properties to be sold up to buildout will not need any huge effort on the part of anyone to sell.

Yesterday, I had just finished up my half mile swim at St. James pool when I heard the ambulance. I looked across the way and the sheriff was directing the ambulance down to the center of the golf course area across from Edenville Path. Then I heard the helicopter circling the area and the sheriff's patrol directed him where to land. They are a well- oiled machine! I sent a text to my friend who works for Community Watch and he told me what had happened. Soooo sad!
You are right, Gracie. This morning I was listening to WBEN Buffalo radio . They were talking about the fastest growing areas in the country. They said latest statistics showed that the fastest growing area in the USA is The Villages, FL with a 5.2% population increase in 2012-2013. It sure made me happy to hear that. :)

The two photo's of the Nissan Rogue, was the car that drove through the wall, which had Texas tags. The other photo is the car which got hit by flying debris.
Just hoping they are all home and recovering by now.

No it's not, I know someone (a relative)who committed suicide this way. When people are determined to commit suicide they will go to horrible lengths to end their lives. I was told by a doctor who has therapy groups for the loved ones of suicide victims that the age groups that are increasing in numbers of suicide are senior citizens and children.

No matter what the reason is for this accident to have happened, it is sad -- very sad.
This lady will need some emotional help after the physical injuries have healed.

And sometimes it is a cry for help and not an attempt at suicide! Prayers for all and especially for the woman who is suffering so emotionally.

There is sometimes nothing you can do. As some may know I had a nervous breakdown back in April of 2000. It was when the Fail Safe live telecast would have been on as I remember being upset because I was missing this because I was on a mental ward. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fail_Safe_(television)
I tried to tell my story of what happened to put me in there with the other patients and orderlies but a kind orderly told me to just play by their rules and I would get out. If I did not shut up about what had actually happened to me, I would be stuck in there. So, I just patiently took the pills and did my time and was out in a week or so.
My point in this is sometimes we are taken by forces way beyond our control and just have to roll with the punches.
Some of the people I remember in this mental ward were suicide attempts. One was a car salesman who just seemed to be crying out for attention from his wife so he threatened her with suicide. Another man cut himself badly along the arm. He seemed to have serious anger issues.
Another man had been living on the street and had become belligerent when a police officer tried to kick him out of a place he had been using to sleep.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness - Mental Health Support, Education and Advocacy (http://www.nami.org/) is a good resource for local support groups. I had tried to get the local Pinellas County chapter involved with my own problems but the Head of that Chapter's daughter was a patient of the doctor I had wanted to sue for malpractice for just prescribing medication when not looking at what had caused the problems I had in the first place. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/130042-post7.html (car was actually behind mine according to something I wrote closer to 2000 on Findlaw's message board). She had a serious conflict of interest. Every time I would try to get this psychiatrist to look at the facts rather than her cookbook for prescribing drugs she would just up my medication. And, sometimes joke with the pharmacy supplier within my earshot about my being the cause for her getting more free samples.
There are lousy doctors out there.
