Has anyone constructed Cornice Boards for their windows? I am wondering if I could use a lighte rmaterial than 3/8" plywood for the frame. Thanks

Yes you can use thinner than 3/8". I used "luan"(sp?) available at Lowe's. Jo Ann Fabrics in Ocala sells a foam and plastic kit that requires no sewing. I used that too but had to reinforce the backing for patio doors.

How are you going to hang them?

My father-in-law showed me a pretty neat trick. Install a pair of hooks & eyes the right length, hook end in the wall and eye in the cornice. Just put the hook into the eye to hang. It's really easy to hang and remove. And the cornice hides the hooks & eyes.

I'll be interested in people's experience as I want to make (or buy?) cornice boards for our CYV -- 2 patio doors and one window. Thought I'd deal with that when we come down in March.

Whoa, Watertown! I think there are a lot of us CNYers in TV. Are you in Watertown now or TV?

This is great information. Appreciate it.

Will put it our list of things to do. Not to sure what number it will be though.

Hey, rekops, we're getting close to March and I'm lining up my projects (and ignoring my husband's groans!) How'd you make out with the cornice boards?

StevefromNY,

I think the hook and eye is a great idea. I just can't picture where the eye is on the cornice. :dontknow: :dontknow:
