This would be a great vehicle to have here in The Villages. Small trips, day trips, I think I really would like this vehicle!

Model S does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, too.

You only need to pop down $70,000 or $75,000 for a standard model.

There's always a catch.
Our son has had the Model S for about a year. I couldn't imagine paying that much for a car (and wouldn't!) but he loves it. He lives in Woodside CA and his commute is to his company in San Mateo. There are lots of charging stations out there. My one worry is when our granddaughters are in the rear seat facing back with the possibility of a rear end collision.

The Tesla S received the highest safety rating of any car EVER tested by the NHTSA ... including rear crash test.

Our neighbor has one and they love it. One year and no trips to the gas station! They also got a big tax credit, and that car is fast! It is amazing!

I looked at one at Brownwood and it has very nice lines and look of quality.

Thank you for this info. I'll reduce my grandparent worry level.

The 60 Minutes news show did a segment on the Tesla manufacturing genius, Elon Musk, who also owns a rocket ship company. Very impressive is the Tesla car, and he is working on bringing the price down to $35K. That will make it more affordable. Maybe I will buy a used one, years down the road.
I wonder what thoughts roll around in Elon's brain, on a day to day basis. I was very impressed with him, and his ideas.

I too was impressed with him. I see this car in our near future. Wonder how this all fits with the auto industry?

I wonder how many years the batteries will last and what will the replacement cost be for the batteries.

My guess is he will develop his own niche in the auto industry, but never big enough to rival the big 3. Maybe, he can sell his newly developed battery to the big 3, and make ton's on of money from that. I really don't think he wants to get that big, but only Elon knows what he wants to do.
With his rocketship business, maybe he add a new dimension to out of this world exporting? :D

If you can't afford a tesla (like me) the Chevy volt is a cheaper alternative. We have had our volt about 9 months and love it, it doesn't have the electric range of the tesla (about 45 miles on a charge) but has a gas engine backup when your charge runs out. We've got gas 3 times in 9 months (we use the volt for short trips mostly)
