For those who have used Grand Circle Travel, I would appreciate your thoughts regarding your experience. I am particularly interested in their trip to Spain and Portugal; however, in general, were you pleased with their accommodations, food, guides, etc.?
Thanks for your input.

We went on their "Romance of the Rhine and Mosel" River cruise a year and a half ago, and were very pleased. They took excellent care of us.

I have never used them but my aunt has gone on several trips with them. She is retired from the airlines so she has traveled a lot! She loved traveling with them and she was traveling alone. She hasn't been to Spain or Portugal with them.
Make sure you get the insurance. On one of her trips with them, a woman fell down the gangplank and I believe hurt her shoulder. It was on a trip up the Black Sea. The woman was taken to the hospital which i believe was in Russia. Anyway, it was a bad experience and she decided to fly home to be treated. She didn't have insurance!!

Thanks for your input. I agree about the insurance; however, I have not used the insurance offered by the tour company. I will check out the one they offer this time.
We bruised with them from Vienna to Amsterdam and had a great time. The staff was excellent and the food was very good. We have already booked another trip with their sister company Overseas Adventure Travel.

I always buy the insurance as I travel a lot with my Mom and aunt who are both in their late 80s. On our last Royal Caribbean cruise, some of the people at our table got the flu and I got it! The doctor confined me to our cabin for two days. That is another story!! I found out later that the insurance would have paid for my entire trip!! I never even thought of it covering the flu!! Of course, I found out too late!!

I am new here and not yet a Villager. This December my wife and I are taking a Christmas Markets river cruise with Grand Circle. We have the same questions now that you had a few years ago. Did you take a trip with GC?

If you book as a group for every five cabins with two people one person goes free. Or cash to group leader

Just got back from the trip to Spain and Portugal with GCT. We absolutely loved it. Spain is clean, cultured, interesting, friendly! Our guide was fantastic and the trip was filled with lots of surprises not listed in the trip description. There is a lot of walking so make sure you are healthy and wear comfortable shoes. Happy travels!!!

Just as a reminder, if you are using a travel agent, they most likely will recomend Viking or some other river cruise line for GRAND CIRCLE does not use or employ Travel Agents to sell their products. Do not let that stop you from considering Grand Circle. WE have used them before and in fact just completed (April 2014) a 23 day trip to Southern Africa with OAT which is Grand Circles Adventure land operation...... all without the services of a travel agent. The GC/OAT people were great in accomodating our needs to include pre/post trips and air accomodations.
BTW: Grand Circle as well as OAT caters primarily to Americans.Tour guides have always been first class and food much better than average.
If anyone is interested please send me a PM and I will go in more detail and even send you a code you can provide Grand Circle that will give you and your travelling companions $100 each off your first cruise with Grand Circle or OAT travel.
We are currently looking into the Great Rivers of Europe for travel in fall of 2015.
