The new Villages Macy's and the new Villages Nordstrom's are just down the road from the Villages Costco and Trader Joe's, aren't they?

And...before you drive to Ocala for Costco...there isn't one. I heard that one last week.

Hey everyone...This is her first post. Be nice.
Bett3164 Don't feel badly with everyone joshing about this. The rumors abound and this subject has been debated so many times. It would be nice to think there will be a store like Nordstroms or even a Macy's but it is pretty much a non event.

Here is a recent thread about this very subject with the main man of commercial development's own words.

That is the same story as the Publix being built at Brownwood -- until the Publix sign went up last week!!!

I don't think these big name stores realize what the potential is here yet. I wouldn't negate the possibility of it happening at some point. I for one would be thrilled to see stores of that caliber here in the Villages. Walmart, Bealls and Belk are great, but it sure would be nice to have some high end larger stores here. The mall in Ocala is pretty lame and Orlando is too far. I don't necessarily like shopping online for everything.

Thanks shcisamax for your welcoming comment. I did feel some of the comments were a bit harsh. I'd like to at least try and keep an open mind about this and other subjects that pertain to the Villages future growth and the desirability of living here.

According to Nordstrom's website, there is only 1 new store planned in Florida until 2018. That one will be in Jacksonville.
Two new Nordstrom Rack stores are also planned in Brandon and West Palm Beach.

Maybe they heard about the recent thefts of umbrella bags and doggie bags and got scared away.

I plan to continue to contact the stores I will miss by email, expressing my interest in nearby locations.
I may not help....but it can't hurt!
As someone posted earlier, I do not think most retailers are aware of the potential market in TV. We can help make them aware of our interest and the probable success of their locations here.
It would be great to be able to do all our shopping locally, without driving to Orlando.
If you feel the same, contacting the retailers can only help. Let them know we are here and interested!!

There are 12 people out of 100,000 that look like they shop at the high fashion stores. They look wonderful and a bit out of place. The rest of us are wearing stuff from Bealls outlet and Kohls and we all look like Florida casual.
At church I spotted someone who came in and said to my self, " Self, she is recently arrived from Miami". And then I remembered what I was supposed to be doing there. ;)

You are so correct. Online shopping has replaced hoofing it around malls with crowded parking lots.
Nordstroms has great baby clothes which can be boxed, gift wrapped and shipped to the recipient, no fuss, no bother. Ditto for Gap Kids and other online merchants.
The "brick and mortar" stores are failing as people turn to online shopping enmasse.
With the past winter weather we've had, online shopping is a blessing. At our age, we no longer need "shopping as a recreational event". Just order it online and keep FEDEX and UPS in business.
Macy's online also has great buys. After not being able to find my favorite "new" sneaker "Easy Spirit's Riptide" at Footsmart or Amazon.com in my particular size, I figured I'd try Macy's online.
Sure enough, they had my exact size and what's more the two pair came in two days........they are the most comfy pair of sneakers I've ever had. Right out of the box comfy. Now I want to get all of the other colors (which I've seen on other websites).
Macy's even called to say that the order would arrive in two shipments, plus kept sending confirmation emails, copies of order, etc. Very happy with Macy's online service.
I've also used Macy's online to send baby gifts and b.day presents, gift wrapped, etc. Speedy delivery, rather than us wrapping it and shipping from our post office (which by the way U.S. postal rates have gone SKY HIGH......so when some of these online merchants offer free shipping........it's an added bonus, in my humble opinion).
The "shop till you drop" mentality is dead.
P.S. Also, no sales tax to be paid (unless the merchant has a brick and mortar store in your state).
L.L. Bean is another great online merchant.
