I fly my American flag and my USMC flag 24X7X365 with a light. This morning both were missing. Talk about ****ed off!!

Since I do fly them 24X7X365 I can only think that it is the bored grandkids out on a lark to see what they can do. I am sure that the deviate(s) that took my flags probably laughed about all the way home and are taking them back to where they came from to put out as trophies.

I really think it sucks that anyone would take anyone's flags. These scum probably do not know what we went through defending our country to be able to fly the flag.

I hope they rot in HELL!

That is horrible, Z. I can't believe anyone would steal a flag.

Oh, John, I'm sorry. What a mean, ugly thing to do. I wish that people would teach their kids the meaning of the flag, the blood that was shed for it, the pride and love in it.

Now, I'm an Army brat and truly have been taught that Marines are okay to make jokes about them since they are such leathernecks. (Sorry!) I also plead guilty to the fact that I might just have considered swiping a Marine flag as a kid if I thought I could get away with it but more because of rivalry issues than any true meanness. Whoever took your flags was certainly not doing it in that spirit.

So, as a military brat proud of her father's and brother's service, I would humbly like to offer to either assist in buying or buy you a new American flag. Sorry, my dad would roll over in his grave if I bought a Marine flag.

Having said that, SEMPER FI

CAVEMAN! I understand your anger and justifiably so.

If your village has a web page, I would suggest you enter a Plea for the return. Kids are not clever thieves, trust me I know from Years of school bus driving. The flags might be sitting on someones lanai and the property owner or finder doesn't have a clue where they belong. SO. make some conversation peacefully and you might be surprised that they might show up. Ask around the neighborhood
If they didn't make it to someones suitcase someone will question there presence, even after they get home. Keep the faith "cave". Don't judge the kids by one kids foolish bad choice. Sometimes they have to learn the hard way. When we meet I'll share a foolish thing I did when I was a kid and It made me, to this day never, never litter.

yes, Z it is terrible. But, perhaps, they will fly them at home. You never know; they may see their errant ways. I know, hard to believe..but it is within the realm of possibilities.

I know you will fly new ones proudly soon again.

That's awful. God bless you though for flying the flags so proudly. Hope you get them back.

Zcave.....Sorry to hear about your purloined flags....really low class act to take them. Along the lines of Handie's suggestion, perhaps post a notice at your local postal facility...maybe someone will know what happened or 'fess up. If you put your address on the note, they might even return the flags in the dark of the night.

Z.

This is a testament to what American youth has become - No respect. Maybe someday they'll have the opportunity to defend our flag which undoubtedly will give them a different perspective to this outrageous and thoughtless offence. I hope for your flag's save return.

Same thing happened to us in 1996 after we moved into our house; I was so angry I called the police and went door to door asking my neighbors if anyone knew about the theft. My flag was on one of those poles attached to the side of my house so the culprits had to come up onto my front steps to swipe it. That took a :edit: load of nerve!!!!! All I really wanted was for the flag to be returned. Needless to say I never saw it again so I replaced it with an even larger flag which has never been touched by any "unauthorized" individual.

In retrospect it was probably removed by our next door neighbors who were some of the most disrespectful, hateful, deceitful, dishonest, criminal, violent, child abusing, racist and despicable people with whom I've had the displeasure to share the same planet! The upside is that the scumbags moved away and our neighborhood returned to the friendly, peaceful place it had been before those awful people moved here.

I empathize with you and thank you for your service to this country.

Apparently someone thinks the word freedom means free to take what I want from whomever I want. This saddens me. My brother was a Marine during the Vietnam war. My son is a Marine and will be deployed to Iraq in February. My better half was also a Marine. This makes me want to spit cotton (as mama use to say).

I was wanting to inquire if I could have a flagpole in our small front yard (we have a villa)--I guess I also better inquire if I can also have an 'electrical' supply going to it that will knock someone's socks off if they dare attempt a theft. *grin* OK, I'm kidding about the shock treatment ... I think.

This is despicable behavior, but also shows how hearts "pull together" when a "family member" is hurt. If a few is going to split the cost to help you get new flags, I'd like to also help!

Blessings,
Rebekah

I wrote a Letter to the editor at the Daily Sun that started with "December 24th was not a beautiful day in the Villages" and of course it was not printed.

I will be going out on Tuesday and buying new flags to fly starting January 2nd.

The pole looks so bare.

Thanks to all who wrote.

And yes, I was thinking about wiring the pole for some shock therapy but I would probably be on the wrong end of a law suit for injuring someone's grandkid.

I'm sorry you never got your flags back. I really was serious when I offered to get the, er, um Semper Fi flag for you. Just give me the size and style you want and you got it.

And no surprise that the Sun wouldn't print your letter. Doesn't sound all that good for TV, does it?

Hmmmmmmm...... electrified flag pole; I like the idea but you're right..... it is lawsuit material.
I was so angry after someone broke into my car I thought of electrifying the body.... not all that difficult a thing to do but an attorney friend rained on my parade. Besides I was admonished for my decidedly Un-Quakerly thoughts and lack of generosity of spirit. Truth be told I do not support that type of anonymous giving.

There are ways to put a padlock on the lifting line. I'd also find some poison ivy and rub it all over the lock too. Then hope they come back to try that stunt again.

Unfortunately, my pole lifts out of the ground so the thieves could have taken the whole thing. I am not sure that there is a foolproof way to protect the flags. Not that I ever thought there were a reason to. Until now.

I am off to the flag shop tomorrow to buy new ones and will try again.

Today I did fly a 17X36 that I found a while back that fell of of a cart.

When you replace your flag, you might shop markets of marion -- a man at the end of aisle "D" has several qualities of flags and poles and will make the right price -- Good Luck -- I just bought a set there and plan to fly my flag in Duval --

I was going to try the flag shop on 25 in Lady lake first.

But that is a thought - and I need to go to the Markets of Marion for some other things anyway. Now that it is winter they are open on Friday.

There are also online resources.... I bought several state and US flag products online. I think this was the site:

OK, we'll be looking for a couple of guys carrying a 40 foot pole while itching their hands.

I went to the flag store in Lady Lake and told her my flags were stolen. She said that was a complaint from several customer in the past couple of weeks.

I wonder if there is a "contest" going on as to how many flags a group or person can accumulate.

My replacement flags cost $24 for the set. I think I will fly day time only for a while.

I am brand spanking new to TV. Please direct me to the Marion Market. I NEED a pole and flag. My new home looks bare naked without one.

gemorc... Markets of Marion are on US 441, about 8 miles North of The Villages on the left hand side. Only open Fr, Sa,Sun...I also believe they close relatively early (2 ish?), so best to go there in the morning.

Happy Shopping!!!

Saw your letter to the Editor in the Daily Sun this morning.

I hand delivered it to them on 12/27. I figured they would not print it after such a long time. And they left it intact.
