Watering times?

So how long should you water each zone during the summer months? Grass and Plants. Can't seem to find the right answer. I am guessing that the Summer will require longer watering periods. Anyone know what is correct?

Depends on grass type, rain fall, soil conditions, etc... most plants/beds can flourish with much less watering.
Sprinkler head type also plays a role. The answer to your question can change weekly. Longer watering periods but less often promotes deeper root growth.

Thanks for the info. I know what you are saying but i am not there year long.

Let me clarify that it is a new home in Collier with standard builder plants and grass. The soil is very sandy.

GPH will vary with the size of the nozzle in the sprinkler head.
Put out some shallow cans (tuna can size) around each zone.
Adjust the time so 3/4"-1" is put out with each watering.
A time that works for your system, may not be the same as your neighbor.

If you are in Collier there should be a sticker on the inside of the white door to the enclosure that houses your irrigation controller (in the garage) that gives you some information on this. It's a good place to start but will likely need some fine tuning for your lawn. Know that the seasonal adjustment if lower than 100% lowers all the zones run time and the Solar sync module can actually adjust the times you have programmed too.

Then click on Recommended Irrigation Run Times in the center.....or the sticker inside the door in your garage has basically the same info.....


Rotors run longer than sprays as they put out less water per minute...It really takes about twice per week in the hot summer unless there are thunderstorms.
