I've just discovered the Ignore List feature here on TOTV. This is wonderful. There are very few posters, actually only one, who consistently get on my nerves and cause me to mutter under my breath. How nice that this poster is now invisible to me. Thank you TOTV for this feature!

I used to use that feature when the Political forum was on TOTV.I didn't have to use it in the short period I was in the Political forum since I couldn't stomach the political attacks an just left the restricted forum after just a few days.

I did use it though at the advice of the then admin following a number of complaints I filed with him about the inappropriate political comments I read and nasty attacks I still received despite being on the open forum, and to boot I'm talking about attacks resulting from posts without my even making political statements.

What I was doing when I received the worse personal attack I ever saw on this forum was defend a political club on their right to announce a meeting, nothing more - nothing less in the appropriate forum to make such announcements. This is something that I had done for political clubs that were on both sides of the political isle despite my leaning being strongly in only one of those directions. I couldn't even begin to explain just how personal and bad the attacks were and how I was affected both physically and emotionally for months afterward! I did give up defending anyone after that experience as well as all blocking after a while since I still was able to see the numerous politically annoying comments anyway by their being quoted in responses.

Today it's been well over a year since I've seen any posts from any of those engaging in that behavior I've mentioned and it appears they're pretty much gone, thankfully! And yes, there are still subtle political statement that skirt the rules, but they are few and not offensive like they used to be. So now I try to limit myself mostly to either humorous post on this forum as well as trying to be helpful to others in some limited ways I can as you've probably seen on a a few of the topics I'm currently engaged in. There are others that do likewise, but I do wish there were more that would do likewise, and if they did, this would be a much happier experience and beneficial forum than it already is!

When referencing the political forum it is always mistakenly labeled as a bad place to go.

There was nothing wrong with the political forum except for the very few who just would not adhere to the rules and had no respect for others and no concept of civility.

As a frequent participant of the political forum I used the ignore list regularly to block out these few.

Unfortunately the administration did not have the luxury to put them on the ignore list and because of the few the political forum was shut down.

If you go to User CP, scroll down on the left-sided lists until you see the Settings and Options title. Under that is the Edit Ignore List. Click on that and enter the poster you wish to ignore, hit Save on the right.

I must disagree. I found the majority of posts in there to be aggressive. Admin had it under the microscope for months before it was determined to be a lost cause. I won't guess why, but it was decided and it is gone. TOTV is a better web site now.

I use it. Someone whose posts regularly got under my skin is in there, then out of the blue someone began swiping at me, they are in there. It is amazing how less stressful and more enjoyable is the chat line when you know your ignore list is working. Although, even though they are on your ignore list they can still PM you and get to you that way, but being an email you have the pleasure of putting them on your blocked list on your computer and get rid of them that way! I just love technology. If only it was possible to get rid of real live people that way! Just take everyone who aggravates you and shove them into a box out of sight...... aah.

I do not use it at the moment. No one posts anything that I cannot survive reading. You start to get a sense of the people (very few) that generally are just stirring the pot, so I quick scan their posts in the event they are actually posting something of interest.

Since there is no "like button" I wish the software had is a way to see if you personally are being ignored and by how many users. Not WHO is ignoring you just how many.

As it is now the folks offending people may not even know

Before the political forum was spun off, TOTV was a free for all at times. Sometimes it was entertaining, but mostly it was just the same talking points over and over. The more people got fired up the more repetitious it became. Now that the forum is gone the few members who stuck around may still have some potiential edginess but mostly good posts that we can all benefit from. After all, we are all lovin' the lifestyle, and we all moved here for the same reason.

I totally agree with you.

I think everyone should have an adult level of tolerance for differing opinions.

No need to "ban" someone's posts from the now long gone political forum, by using some button. Ignore feature?

To always be hyper jolly with a non authentic personality, or else patronizing to down to earth "real" posters whose thoughts might differ based on their own frame of reference, is being intolerant.

I wouldn't use that button (if I could find it)......

All of our differences are what makes this world go around........I do believe everyone's thoughts have value.

Attacking, of course, is juvenile.....but then I never read the political forum to see the true sparring of words and opinions........

People who attack, denigrate others , belittle them or make them "invisable" are just reacting to their own inner demons and inner frustration with themselves. That's how I see it and hear it, loud and clear.

To be accepting of all people and all thoughts is to be an adult. We don't have to agree, nor follow through.....but they deserve to express themselves, based on their own history on the subject matter.

I also do not care for the battle between the north and the south.

We've met and know hundreds of kindhearted New Yorkers and New Jerseyites as well as southerners..........but to lump all of the above together as being rude, etc. which I've read over and over again.....is insulting, to say the least. Not all are rude....or loud, for that matter.

Tolerance is the key. We are all different. Vive la difference. The very few, very rare individuals that rub us the wrong way........well, that's human nature.

I've also noticed a preponderance of attacks coming from single women, compared to those happily married with grandkids or even single men/married men. It's a woman thing. Very high school cliquish in my humble opinion. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Sad to say, but someone has to say it. Now, if I am invisible, no one will read this, so that's why I'm saying it. If we had known that THE VILLAGES was only for the dating set or singles, we would never have planned our future around it, needless to say..........but being astute and down to earth, we are basing our final ultimate decision on the great people we actually met in person........and others we consider friends on this forum.....whose true spirits shine through their messages........whether we agree with the message or not. Everyone is entitled to say what they feel.

Any complaint that the political forum was a cesspool is garbage. People who posted and read there regularly loved it, and they had to join it first to even see it.

Those who didn't like it did not join it and could not see anything associated with it.

I didn't like it, yet I read it sometime, so I have no complaints.

If you read it regularly and complain about it being that bad, you are being disingenuous. You could have dropped out of the political forum membership and never thought another thing about it.

Some of these complaints remind me of book burners who never read the books. You should be ashamed to want to take political discussion away from those who thrived on it. Who was hurt? Only those who wanted to join and be in the fray.
