I am confused on some listing I have been looking at and was wondering what is the difference between a Fl. Room and a Lanai. In Ca. we have patios and decks. We don't have attics either.

My understanding is a lanai is a screen room with a roof - a Florida room is an enclosed room usually surrounded by windows. Many folks in The Villages enclose their lanais and make them Florida rooms because of the rain and dirt you have to deal with when you have a lanai.

Actually that is probably an enclosed lanai I have described. A Florida room is probably under heat and air as well.

There are some homes that have patios, but I have never seen a deck in The Villages. Might be because of the harsh weather conditions that could be a problem for a wood structure - heat, sun, rain, termites, etc.

Thank You, Gomoho. I thought it was pretty much the same because most of the Lanai looked like they were enclosed. They also had nice furniture .

Every house we have owned in CA in the past 40 some years had attics.

My grandparents retirement home in Bradenton in the early 60's had an attached back roofed room with screens that was called a Florida Room, our similar room here is called a Lanai.
