I have a CCW. I have decided to get rid of my 9 and buy a TAZER instead.

If I am in a situation that I feel threatened, can I deploy the TAZER, and hold the perp for the sheriff/police.?

Can I "open carry" as well as concealed carry.?

Would George Z.have been better off with a TAZER? I'm sure Travon M.
would think so, if he was still here.

Feeling threatened and actually being threatened are too different things. You ZAP someone and you will likely find yourself in court. You should have kept your 9mm.

I would not give you advice, but the appropriate law is here:

Florida Carry Laws (http://www.open-carry.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=2)

If you decide to openly carry a taser you should expect to frequently have bystanders report you to the police. Many will not realize that it is not a firearm and others will think you cannot openly carry a taser. You will probably spend a lot of time talking to policemen.

Here are some things you should know about the taser.

1. It is not cheap.
2. It fires two darts at the same time. If only one dart hits the target you don't have the requisite circuit for best effect.
3. Frequently only one dart hits.
4. Heavy clothing can prevent one or both darts from being effective.
5. The target may react to being struck by knocking one or both darts away from his body.
6. The range is very short.

This is anecdotal, but true. A suicidal man with a gun was shot with a taser by a police officer friend of mine in an attempt to prevent the man from shooting himself. With two darts in him, and with the taser still delivering a charge to the man, the man was able to bring the pistol to his head and shoot himself. He could have just as easily shot the policeman if he had been homicidal rather than suicidal.

Of course, anyone you shoot with a taser can sue you later.

You've heard the old joke about the dead man who "Brought a knife to a gun fight." I would not want to be the one who brought a taser to a gun fight. You don't know in advance what the bad guy will be bringing.

Oh heck. I think some advice found its way into my last post.

I would not like seeing someone openly carrying a taser anywhere in The Villages and definitely would be on my cell phone calling 911.

Sidepoint - do you know what the acronym "taser" stands for? No cheating by looking it up on Google!

This is easy. Let's say you are attacked by not one, but two or more assailants. What are you going to do, taser one and threaten to give him another jolt if the others don't surrender? I'll keep my handgun.

When was the last time someone was attacked in The Villages that would have justified deadly force?

the inconsistency within your hypothesis:
if you have a CCW you would already know the answers.

Always heard, never bring a knife to a gun fight. Good advice for tasers too. I'll keep the 38 just in case...

Taser International now uses the term, "less lethal" instead of "non-lethal," which does not mean the weapon cannot cause death.

Did you miss the word "hypothetical?"

You never leave The Villages?

Not to Orlando, Ocala, Wildwood, Leesburg or anywhere?

I don't think I would be afraid of someone openly carrying a Taser. If you feel you need one for your protection go for it. As a CCW holder I really don't understand why you would give up your "9". Why not just add the Taser to your arsenal so to speak?

That's because there are so many CCW holders no one would dare threaten someone. :MOJE_whot:
