Looking for recommendations for an Oncologist / Hematologist for my Wife. We will be moving to TV in the next 2 months and will need to make appointments as soon as we arrive (or before we leave here). Thanks in advance for any help.

Editing Post - We are moving to TV from a small town in Ohio.

This is my personal feeling. We go back to Cincinnati for our cancer checks and if we needed treatment, we would seriously consider the Moffitt Center in Tampa, Shands in Gainesville, or the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

I wouldn't use the local radiation people after their unprofessional advertising.

I have not found one in The Villages that I liked. I did find Dr. Craig Reynolds in Ocala, just off 441. He is with Ocala Oncology. He was wonderful. Very easy to find. Just 25 minutes from The Villages. 352-732-4032. Good luck.

My neighbor has just started her cancer treatments at Shands for multiple myoloma (sp?). If you want me to get the information from her, PM me and I will ask her.

Good luck to you!!

This is just my personal opinion, but shouldn't your wife be asking her Oncologist for a referral to someone competent right here in TV? They all attend the same seminars during the year and they all get to know one another etc. etc.

That said - my husband had a very rare form of cancer, found here during a routine procedure, diagnosed here and treated here. He was referred to Rakesh Rohatgi, MD, TriCounty Hematology Oncology, 1503 Buenos Aires Blvd, Lady Lake for his chemo treatment. This office is in the vicinity of The Village Hospital. My husband is five years out from his bout with Cancer and gets checked every six months by Rohatgi.

We also have a friend who was diagnosed locally with breast cancer and was referred to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Her operation was performed there and her schedule of chemo and radiation was set up by them, but they referred her to Dr. Rohatgi for her treatment which lasted over a couple of years. She is in remission and returns to Mayo every six months for her checkups.

At one time people from TV did have to travel some distance to get good medical help, but that has changed quite significantly. Once the required treatment has been established any good clinic can administer the meds.

My suggestion - ask her oncologist to refer her to someone here.

Both of these physicians sound very well trained and competent. This forum is a wealth of knowledge. Thank you both for sharing this.

Fortunately I have not needed the care of an oncologist (not yet at least! ) However, I have a relative here diagnosed with a severe stage of cancer. She was referred from The Villages to Shands where she received excellent care both inpatient and outpatient. She was always treated with the utmost respect and every procedure was explained in detail. Now after one year she has just been declared in full remission and is doing well.

Which one, there are several choices available?
