Alternative to Comcast

I live in Lady Lake and have Comcast for my cable television and broadband internet.
My bill has been going up a small amount over the past two years which is usually due to government fees and taxes. This month however, it jumped $30.00. I called and asked what was going on and they explained that I am no longer on the "promotional rate".
They could get me a lower rate if I bundled my home phone in the package which would end up coating me more money. We don't have a home phone we just use our cell phones.
I talked with the representative for quite a while and she seemed to be trying find a lower rate for me but couldn't come up with anything. I asked if I could cancel my service and then get the promotional rate and she said I could but then started talking some gibberish and said that I would actually pay more.
So the question I have now is what are my alternatives? Does anyone know if Verizon is available in Lake County, Lady Lake?
I really don't want to go to a dish.
The thing is that I really like the cable and internet performance with Comcast, but I can't stay with them if they are going to treat me like this.

You are stuck with Comcast, unless you want to receive TV by "Air"

I do not use Comcast. That is a common ploy with all cable companies.

I am cutting the cord on cable TV in a couple of months once my promotional rate ends!


Of course, they will probably continue to jack up the cost of internet access.

Have you contacted Centurylink to determine if they serve your area? Their Prism service area has been expanded since it was initially introduced.

I have Century Link Prism. It's not a dish, it's some kind of phone line. It's not cheap but I really like it.
Like you I started with Comcast. Disgusted with their (lack of) customer service and their constant price increases. Then I tried Dish and then Direct TV, they were OK except when it rains. I have the whole bundle with Century Link and very pleased with it.
If you live in the new area below 466A you can get Brighthouse.

We live on the Historic Side of TV. We currently use Comcast for our Internet service and DirecTV for television. My husband and I both have cell phones with Straight Talk service. About one week ago, I stood in line at the CenturyLink office on 441 to talk to them about changing my service from Comcast. We talked to three people in line with us who were doing the exact same thing. They were fed up with Comcast. I was ready to pull the trigger and send Comcast packing and was actually a little excited to finally be taking action instead of complaining about them.

When I talked to a representative, he said although CenturyLink does service my area, the bandwidth was used up and they were allowed to take on any new customers in the Historic Side at this time. I half-jokingly asked him if someone died or cancelled would they notify me and he said to keep coming back and asking that it might change or something will open up. Other than CenturyLink or using one of the hotspots for Internet, sadly; I know of no other options.

Call Comcast and tell them you are terminating service. Before anything gets DONE, you will be transferred to the "retention" dept. That person in that dept is the only one who can do anything for you. They can reduce your bill to keep you as a customer, but you will have to convince them you are serious. It is almost pathetic how this has to be done, but I have heard of nothing else that works.

We only use Comcast for Internet. Use Dish for TV.

We have been customers of DirecTV for years. They have stopped offering deals for keep you as a customer and I'm seriously thinking about switching to Dish. We just don't watch enough television to justify the price we are paying for basic service with DirecTV.

I currently have a "bundled" Comcast package. I've been unhappy with their customer service, so I am having BrightHouse installed Thursday. More channels, faster internet and a significantly lower cost per month. Plus, no contract and guaranteed pricing for 2 years. Bye bye Comcast!

It is great not to be the only one that is fed up with Comcast. I am tired of calling them each month over, over charges, increases, etc. They bring a new meaning to bad customer service and greed. I am calling Direct TV tomorrow to get some feedback on their offerings. Hopefully I will be off of them by next month. When we lived up North we had a dish and it was fine. I would really like it if we had some statistics regarding what other services are available in the The Villages, where they are available, contact numbers, etc. There is no question that Comcast has been abusing their customers and continue to get away with it.:sad:
