View Full Version : Addiction to TOTV?

KathieI

How bad is your addiction to TOTV??

I'll give you my view, after 9 days, 10 hours and 41 minutes:

There is no food in this house - husband has broken into the "big one" earthquake storage of food and water

The bills are piling up (thank Goodness some bills are on auto pmt electronically)

No drinking water in this house (in L.A. you can't drink tap water)

Haven't had fresh air in days

Behind on house cleaning and dishes piling up in sink

Haven't used the washing machine in 9 days, 10 hours, 41 min.

Do ya think I'm in trouble??? Anyone have a support group to help me!!
Please tell me I'm not alone!!

Your TOTV friend, Kathie

We admitted we were powerless over TOTV - that our lives had become unmanageable.

Meeting times will be posted on the web site soon.

Kath, you are hilarious. 1rnfl
Now, I will not feel guilty when I spend an hour or 2 or 3 on TOTV. I keep reminding myself that the information shared is very valuable and I can't afford to miss a thing.

I am so relieved to hear there are others that share my addictive condition. I was really getting concerned and so is my family! count me in on the support group! ::)

Not that I want to "pat" myself on my back, but this is the kind of humor we should be having on TOTV. We are not curing cancer or solving world problems, this is fun folks and lets have it. And.... along the way, exchange information in a kind, friendly manner without all the below the belt punches. Those who don't want to read something, then DON'T read it. If you do, than welcome. Lighten up!

Life's too short and then you die.

Kath

KathieI
12-30-2007, 03:09 PM
Yes, I'm afraid we do need a support group. This is frightening :yikes:

Open my eyes at 6:45, make coffee, give dogs their crackers, and in 15 min. on TOTV to see whas happenin'.... yes, I think I need a straight jacket, one that covers my hands so I can't type. Looks like we'll have a large group.

Shall we start electing a group leader? Wanna post nominees??

Morning, Kathie

I'd be willing to bet that our good buddy Oshunluva had a similar addiction and that he's made a New Year's resolution to stay away, and get some work done. I'm considering it but until 1/02, I stick around and help TalkHost reach his December goal. George

KathieI
12-30-2007, 04:44 PM
Me too, Gary. My new years resolution will be to cut down time on TOTV and get my chores done. But in the meantime, will stay on to break records.

Nonie, no, who should be the facilitator? Me, no, no time, I'm on TOTV too much.

I think we need a name for our group. Any suggestions?

I think we should nominate DickY and Tal for co-presidents. I am making this suggestion based on the number of hours and/or posts they have.

Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary are up for grabs.

Bailiff - I nominate Handie for that position - this is based on the number of times he has used this symbol :cop: and if needs be he could play another role :joke: when fences need to be mended

All members of the support group should have their own computers.

Communication - via a thread or Chat rooms - so that those not in TV can be active participating members.

Dues - since we do not need an official room from TV - I propose we do away with the annual dues.

We can follow Roberts Rules, so as not to have a need for a :cop:

Please remember all of the above is presented IMHO.

Ok thats it, I've just got to take some breaks from TOTV. I didn't realize what a problem I had until I shut off my computer to install my new Christmas present ( a wireless router) .... I learned that my wife left me nine days ago and I wasn't aware of it......So I made a new years res. to get out of the house more in 2008...

It is always good to know that one is in excellent company. By all the post made I feel this is validated.

1. DickY, to my knowledge, of course also IMHO, when one is not present and is elected to a post, one accepts graciously. Thank you for the quote. George Washington, said something similar and became our first President. He turned down being King.

2. Great Fumar; What type of router did you get? We have been looking at some at Staples.

3. HELP HELP I will be working nearly the whole month of Jan. and do not know how often I will have access to a computer - I will be out of the country. :dontknow: (Creating a proposal for two groups of travellers. I will be posting a travellogue, but that is not the same.) I NEED ADVICE FROM ALL OF YOU - I DO NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH WITHDRAWL PAINS.

4. Punkpup, I will have to get a cell phone, so I can follow your lead. Thank you.

5. Kathie, after reading your post, do you want to be Social Secretary?

6. Kathie, if there is no opposition, I will also nominate you for the position of Empress of Most Addicted, but I am afraid you may have competition for this position.

7. Donna, I think can also be nominated for Empress of Most Addicted. I will nominate her also.

Respectfully submitted,

Hyacinth Bucket ( I do hope that this is read and viewed - with the same intent that I am writing it.)

Yup, agree, Ms Donna is the empress.

Addicted? :dontknow: My husband thinks so and I don't come close to some of you but every time I'm near the computer I do log on to see what's happening and what I've missed. I just don't post as often as some of you. When I'm on TOTV my husband then wants to know what's going on and what everyone is saying. It's a great way to stay in touch.

Hi Scottke,

Your statement is very impressive. "When I'm on TOTV my husband then wants to know what's going on and what everyone is saying. It's a great way to stay in touch."

By staying in touch with everybody on TOTV you are also communicating more with your husband.

You know your addicted when,

You celebrate NYE at 9pm Pacific time, with all your friends in the east on TOTV
You stay up till midnight Pacific time and look to see whose still up in the east on TOTV so they can wish you Happy NY

Your up at 3am for bio break and log on to see who's posted for the new year
You wake up at 8am and see above

Before I post at 8am, I check the stats to see how the "dead heat" between Donna and I is progressing. Sad, cause she's 24 min. more than me, but I'll make it up!!

Don't know about you folks, but I see my shrink tomorrow and guess what the topic of conversation is gonna be???

Nonie, check on the stats and ask Kathie.

Based on the number of hours, days and number of posts on TOTV there is a lot of non-face to non-face communication going on. Who knows perhaps some romances.

When I wrote what I did, it was meant to be humorous and not taken seriously.

What is serious is, not being able to log onto TOTV to often in the next month.

We have been in TV for a week and this is the first time I have logged on. It has changed a bit (volume & bad drivers) but still active and fun. Now that I'm here I'm wondering why the folks who are on line constantly are not out doing something. It was cold the last two days but there was still lots of things to do. I can tell you why I still post on this board, even though I now live in TV.

Because I am grateful for all the assistance and support I received from TOTV members when I was a wannabee instead of a newbie. ;D

We were living in Canada when we purchased a house in TV "sight unseen" in April 2007. We knew it would be late October before we would be coming to TV. During that six-month wait, TOTV posters were an incredible help! We managed to get some renovations done, house painted, tv/phone/cable hook-up arranged, etc., before we arrived. All through advise and assistance from the wonderful people on TOTV. :clap2:

I made a promise to myself that after I moved to TV, I would try to offer any information or assistance I could to wantabees or newbies. Also, once I started living here I got to meet a whole bunch of wonderful people through TOTV gatherings. :beer2:

You should be a Veteran Member by then (February 12, 2008?) KathieI. And I will probably be approaching 1400 posts on TOTV. I have around that many or more on Findlaw's boards even if they are archived but then again I started on Findlaw in April of 2002 and picked up a particularly nasty false friend which curtailed my desire to post on Findlaw even more. Thankfully, I have not seen many really vicious posters on TOTV.

The Administrators do a very good job of keeping these boards on TOTV rather friendly, polite and civil even if the really virulent (poisonous) exchanges are more entertaining.

Addicted? - I was starting to shake because I hadn't spent enought time on TOTV in the past few days. Weekend is here and now I'll be checkin' a lot. Scottke, :welcome:
When you come to your new home in February:

1) Your computer won't be hooked up yet
2) You will join all the other bleary eyed newbies at Wal Mart shopping with their "lists"
for hours every day and discussing with their spouses what colour towels to buy
3) If you don't have furniture, you'll spend the rest of your time at Southern Lifestyles,
Rooms To Go, or Bargains and Treasures
4) You will not miss TOTV for at least a week, you'll be too darn tired

Then one day you'll wake up and say "OMG, what have I missed, I need to get to a computer".. The local library has computers you can use for free. This will prompt you to get computer service in your house, and you'll be back to TOTV addiction in no time. 024

At one point I thought we should sell our house in Belvedere and move to Spanish Springs. It felt like we could drive there with our eyes closes.

Kathie,

I thought Valium was your med of choice.

Since you are renting you can do all of these things at your own pace. I am sure golfnut will provide you with towels and things, but will he provide you with TP?

Been there, done that
BF

Not only does the Villages Public Library have about 8 computers for free use, but the Savannah Center has a computer room with free access to computers (@10), while every recreation center in TV has wireless access as well if you have a laptop with that capability. The Lady Lake Library (352-753-2957) near the intersection of US441/27 and CR466 (but off a side road) has about 9 public access free computers as well.

Some of the recreation centers do not have wireless access. I have spoken to numerous groups at various recreation centers about TOTV. Some of them do not have internet access and will not allow it. I spoke recently at one of the newer centers south of 466 and the Villages absolutely forbid me from using the internet (not even dial-up). They would not give a reason for not allowing it in the buildings.

I propose that Doggie Doo Run to increase their revenue should have internet access and computer stations.

That way while the "masters and mistresses" can have fun while their puppies socialize.

HB

There's people socializing going on at the shelters at the Doggie Doo Run Run in the small dog and large dog areas. The big field is too big for a lot of human interaction even if the dogs still manage to mingle.

I usually just listen for juicy gossip and watch my dog Sport though and stay calm and quiet. That's kind of difficult with some of the characters you find at Doggie Doo Run Run though-- both canine and human characters.

Wow all of you are so experienced. I guess we'll be shopping a lot. Southern Lifestyles is putting a loaner couch in the house for us and our bed and one night stand will be there. Some furniture that we ordered won't be ready yet and the remainder will come from our home in NJ. We do have to go and get a washer & dryer and a TV and then continue to look for other things we will need. I've already shipped some boxes to empty nest to put in the house - towels, sheets, toilet paper, soap etc. as we don't arrive until about 8:30p and won't have a car or cart until the next day. You just don't realize the basics that you need until you start to shop. There are times it all seems overwhelming. When that happens I'll sit on the floor in the lanai and have a glass of wine. Guess you're right I won't be thinking of a computer too often.

When we were there, it was the regional rec centers only for wireless. Savannah Center also had computers available for those with resident ID's. I liked the system at the Savannah Center because the computers automatically shut down after an hour of use.

At The Villages branch of the public library, there was wireless access. The library also had computers available. I believe the time allowed was 45 minutes and a sign-in sheet was used. At the time school was letting out, those computers could get pretty busy with kids from the high school. I will say that the kids were all very polite and respectful of the time restraints. The ones I saw who had to be reminded by the librarian that their time was up responded nicely. I hope that is always the case. I know that public access computers can become a problem for librarians in some situations, unless they happen to have had previous careers as bouncers.

The Villages Public Library is right across the street from the Villages High School so you will often find teens at the computers when they are out and about. The Lady Lake Library also gets a lot of kids too.

I would just go there frequently if you have a library that is convenient for you in location so that you can get a feel of the traffic flow.

Savannah Center's computer room can have high use times too.

-forgot to say in the above post that the wireless access at the regional rec centers required resident ID's also. You cannot get in to the regional rec centers without one and you need the ID to log in to the wireless also.

(They were checking ID's carefully at the time. I think there had been crashers from a neighboring community who had invaded a water fitness class. That was the rumor anyway.)

Is not the golf pin number involved with the Villages ID somehow with the wireless access? I do not have a lap top so I have never used the wireless in TV. :dontknow:

I do not golf so I thought that even if I had a laptop I would have to do something about getting this pin number for wireless?

When you closed on your house you were assigned an ID and golf password. ID is on your Villages ID and your golf # a peice of paper they gave you when you got your ID card. from closing.

One morning last week, I told DH I had woken up about 4 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. He said, "any good posts?"

One evening earlier this year he told me he almost decided to log on and post, "If anybody sees my wife in one of these threads will you please tell her I miss her." :o

I just read this whole thread and thought, "Oh, these poor people. Thank goodness I'm not addicted!"

You know youre an addict when:
1. You work a 40 hour week and are logged on for over 35 hours.
2. You get annoyed when someone asks you to do something that interferes with posting. They actually expect me to work?
3. You get angry when you lose a post because the system at work logs you out and you didnt notice before hitting the submit icon. I was working.
4. You are upset the day you cant watch videos because the work administrator has blocked that function.
5. You cant wait to sign on after reading the Sunday newspaper.
6. You admire people who have read the entire dog poop thread.
7. You cant wait to read of members who have moved to TV.
8. You look forward to reading about happy people.
9. You need to feel connected to TV.
10. What you really care about is getting valuable information to move to TV.

I would not say I'm addicted to TOTV, but for me it serves a real purpose that some of you may not understand.
As many of you know, my Florida home is just south of you good people. I plan on retiring and moving there full time this next year, God willing, as I can retire in 194 more days.

Until then, I am up here in cold western NY. I dream of my orange and palm trees daily, and TOTV gives me my much needed "Florida fix". I appreciate how kind most folks have been here, especially to an "Outsider".

When I move there full time this next year, I plan on advertising my business on TOTV......since I like it so much. It is only right that I support it.

Stay warm my friends, and have a blessed Christmas.

You all have helped keep the dream alive for us, and we appreciate it. You all, and this forum have been terrific.
