The other day, a Southerner explained to me the difference between a "Yankee" and a "Damn Yankee".
A "Yankee" comes South to vacation.
A "Damn Yankee" comes South and stays.

My dad, born and raised in Texas, swore that he was 12 years old before he learned DamnYankee was two words.

Born in central Ohio but we lived 40 years near the Mason Dixon Line. I like and understand the middle of the country, North and South. Middle Americans are warm and gracious and polite and know where milk and eggs come from. I really don't know WHAT a red neck is but suspect it is someone who was raised in the country. If so, they are generally good folks.

I heard "damn Yankees" all the time growing up in Manhattan in the fifties. Dad was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. :)
