Was walking a dog in Amelia as I passed a drainpipe. Heard a dog yapping. Looked, saw nothing. Listened some more, sure sounds like a dog. Called, "Here, Boy, it'll be okay." Dog became silent. No whimpers, no whining. Not quite sure, but still think it sounds like a dog. Took the dog I was walking home.

Went back to the drainpipe. Went to the few folks I knew in the neighborhood -- no one home. House in front of drainpipe, no answer. House across street, no one home. What to do?

Finally decided to call 911. "Do you want police, fire, ambulance?" Um, I have no idea. Explain that I think there's a dog in the drainpipe. A police officer will be there in about 10 minutes. Huge relief!!!!

As I;m waiting, the folks that live by the drainpipe come home. Explained to them what was going on. The man starts smiling -- broadly, very broadly. Says this happens about twice a year. The police come, listen. Call the fire department. A fireman climbs into the drain and .......

So, if the "dog" yaps, doesn't whine, just keep on walking. It's a frog, folks. (Or you can call 911 and feel really dumb when you have to call them back and say never mind.)

OMG, that's funny! It does sound like a little puplet! You absolutely did the right thing, and I'm sure 911 doesn't think you're an idiot, and if they do...so what? You could have been saving some little pups life. :BigApplause:

If you're going to add frog walking to your services, please do us all a favor and not bring them to mail stations, the squares or restaurants. We don't want the poor little dears getting squashed. And by all means please carry sandwich baggies with you to pick up their little poopies!

We had one get into one of the storage compartments on our motorhome, took him back to Tn. We found him while taking items out, we heard him bark several times after that outside our bedroom window!

Reminds me of when we first moved here and one night I was sitting outside our garage and intermittently kept hearing a strange noise. Then I heard it across the street. I did'nt find out until later what it was, untill I was taking golf lessons at Palmer. One of those damn frogs blurted out right next to the chair I was sitting in and I jumped out of my skin. You learn something new every day!

OK, we are new to TV, less then a year, thanks for the 'heads up' on these frogs. There are so many small things that are different here. I love seeing these helpful hints, and please do not feel bad, I would have done the same thing.

I will have to remember that, Redwitch. Good for you for trying to help.

I applaud you for your efforts! So many people would walk away. Thank you for the information and now I hope everyone doesn't think it's only a frog when it could be a real dog trapped. I tip my hat to you.

If it yaps, whines and whimpers, assume a dog; if it only yaps, assume a frog. BTW, I really didn't feel like an idiot, just couldn't think of any other title, but it was really funny and calling 911 to say never mind was slightly embarrassing.

Definitely not an idiot to try to help any animal. Better to do too much than ignor a possible suffering animal. You did the right thing!

Too funny, Skyguy. And Red, you probably did what any dog lover would do. AND you saved the rest of us from making the same mistake. Good job!:o:)

OMG -- Too, too funny!

I just clicked on your link to hear what the frog sounded like.
My dogs started barking and my husband said,
"What the hell was that??!?

I got my money's worth with your post. Thanks!"
