Nearly every home in the Villages have sliding doors. Normal sliding doors are easily removed simply by lifting them up and out of the bottom track. Here is an easy fix to prevent a intruder from removing the doors. Slide all movable doors to the side, drill maybe two or three holes in the top framework door channel, insert screws into these holes so they clear the top of the sliding doors by about a quarter inch. Now slide the doors in the opposite direction and repeat the screw process. Possible robbery prevented.

Sounds like a good idea! Another easy/cheap fix with your garage door opener, just put a tie through the holes where the release is so someone can't jimmy the release.

I saw a video on how easy it is to unlatch the inside release on a garage door from the outside. I will certainly do this easy fix. Thanks...:BigApplause:

I just put a 3/8" dowel on top of the sliding doors cut to the width of the doors.

Double check your garage doors, the releases on mine are OPPOSITE of those shown on the videos, therefore they cannot easily be released with the coat hanger. Also, the pull handle release needs to be pulled straight down, not to the front to release. It seems the garage door manufacturers realized there were problems and modified their designs. I am considering the installation of break resistant glass (aka Lexan) in the center section of the garage door windows to prevent someone breaking in the glass and releasing the mechanism.
Just my thoughts.

Ours is the same way. I've posted this before, but others said it's still possible. I don't agree, however. You would have to be standing inside the garage door to hook onto the handle and pull it in the direction it needs to go to be opened.

Even so the zip tie is a smart idea but I also suggest that you always lock the door from the garage to the house!

Here's something I don't know how to fix...

We have secured our front door with tribolts so it can't be kicked in, but consequently it can't be opened by key either. We have secured our garage door so that it can't be compromised. We have added security locks to our sliders so that they too can't be thwarted unless they're broken. We have a key pad to open the garage door, but if the power goes out, we are effectively locked out of our house.

I guess we could break a window, although most of those are fitted with security locks as well.

We have two pets in the house. I hope to heaven the power doesn't go out while we're out of the house.

Quick easy fix for sliders, just buy dowels, score and snap them to length if you do not have a hand saw, and slide them in over the top of your lanai doors. Immediate prevention from picking them up to open.
No drilling, no screws,etc.

I have tried to lift our doors to see if this can be done. The door only raises about 1//4 inch, which is not enough to clear the lip at the bottom. It appears that there must be some adjustment to fit the doors to the opening.
