Hot tub on or off while up north?

I searched for older threads I've seen but can't find one. Sorry. We have an in ground tub. I've heard conflicting opinions. What works for you when leaving for 6 months?

Edited because I was going to share our experience and re read your post and noticed your tub is in ground. Our tub is above ground and maintenance is probably different.

yes, I believe that it has too stay full, that I know. Thank you.

We leave our hot tub up north on for the 7 months we we are down here. Set the temp at the lowest setting.
