WAter quality in your home?

I know some locations have the sulphur smell or bad taste.
My question is relative to whether you think it is harder or softer? In the area South of 466 the water tastes fine. However, I find it very hard. It leaves water marks on everything you let it set on...faucet bases, shower doors, tile.
While I do not like the "slippery" feel of softened water, I am fast approaching pursuing a softener.
What is your experience?

If you decide to purchase a water softner check out Lowes or Home Depot. Do not buy from these local homr salesmen

I've heard of people paying up to $4,000 for the installation of a water "treatment" system. Just buy a $400 water softener at HD or Lowes or Walmart and have a plumber install it.

Water quality on the northend (chatham, calumet grove) I know is good, no stains and hardness is acceptable....

I installed the smaller version of a water softener purchased at Walmart's (very reasonable)We love soft water and the lack of soap scum alone makes bathroom cleaning so much easier, no water spots after car washing, clothes softer, using less soap and no skin itching

Agree with your analysis. South of 466 does taste fine, and it feels great in a shower, but it leaves marks and dish washer crud. Like you, I'm reticent about getting a softener because of that gooey feeling after a shower, like your body has a light coating of baby oil on it. Any water softener out there without the oily sensation?

Morton water softener sold at Walmart's, The "oily" feeling is not oil at all but the feel of your skin with out mineral residue

Speaking of water...the house I bought...the sidewalks are stained orange...is there anything I can do to remove that stain? Thanks

I read somewhere there is a product called SnowCap that you just mix with water, spray on and rinse off, I would check at ACE Hardware first, they are usually very knowledgable and very helpful.

Don't know if this has any bearing on the stain in the concrete, but our building contractor told us the reason they painted the walkways and driveways was because the sand in the area used to make concrete makes the concrete look like it is stained. They paint the concrete to cut down on the complaints.

I noticed that some of the newer neighbhorhoods (e.g. new part of Duval) had the driveway and walkways painted with a pale gray paint....must be something the developer has started doing in the past year....my driveway (house built in Mar 06) and all areas around me have unpainted concrete.

The builder painted the driveways and walkways, and the lanai. When we did our inspection he explained that the sand used to make the concrete causes a discoloration in the finished concrete. It apparently gets worse as the concrete cures. As I understood him he said some homeowners would complain and there was not anything they could do, so they now paint the concrete. No more complaints about discolored concrete. I do not believe the warranty covers the paint in these areas either. I could be wrong. How long will the paint last???? 07 you are correct when we were looking at homes this past summer in Duval we were told that paint concrete area was something new. Agent did not elaborate.

Sounds like they may have started having issues with the quality of the look of the concrete, kudos for doing something to rectify, just wonder how it will last. We had the regular grey concete when we bought.
