I have wondered about that also. I would think that information would be of great interest to local advertisers.

I assume by full-time resident you mean having a Florida drivers license etc. and TV is your primary and only residence. That's a good question. I have always been a snowbird----about 5 months in TV and 7 in Illinois.
I think full-time residents on TOTV would run about 75%. My guess would definitely just be a SWAG.

Full-time, in that this is our permanent residence and has been for the past 5 plus years. We generally travel in the Summer. We're sort of on the "Love Bug" avoidance schedule! What a life!

I think the percentage that "claim" to be residents is a lot higher than reality. For obvious tax reasons, I think a lot of folks have changed their residency to Florida, but only live here during the winter months. You only need to register your car here and vote here.......and voila....your a florida resident. A lot of RV'ers do this. They travel all over and claim Texas, Florida, etc as their residency.

05-02-2014, 01:09 PM
Oh, and almost forgot.....they also claim the tax exemption here in Florida.

... and they are committing tax fraud if they are violating any laws when claiming Florida residence for tax purposes.

We are on our way to becoming FL residents, but we'll still escape each summer to a NH lake - and I hope you will forgive us... We've been here for 4 years. I'm now in NH getting our house ready to sell... but we'll still have a little nest in upper NH for the time being... I still want to spend some time with my grandchildren and family when it's HOT, HOT, HOT... July, August, September...

Mom and I own a home in the Village of Charlotte but we only get to The Villages 4-6 weeks a year. Unfortunately, my almost 90 year old mother doesn't want to move to Florida full time. After this winter, I'm hoping I will be able to change her mind!! We had 3 inches of snow two weeks ago!

Just wondering how many people on here that are village residents.
You'd need to do a poll to figure that out.
In my humble opinion,
I think there are mostly wannabees and newbies on TOTV, searching for information.
I think they tend to post less.
I think that established residents tend to post more frequently
because they feel they have information they'd like to share.

I am curious how many homes in The Villages has at least one Florida Resident.
My guess is 60 - 70 percent.

Yipeeeeeeeeee & Yeah!!! In the process of selling ours now. Showed 3 times today and 9 showings on Monday. Agent is telling everyone to come with their best offer.
Not sure what we would be. We own in Collier but have not been back since we bought. Were not wannabes and were not residents yet. Were in between somewhere. Sept. 6th is the magical date.

People don't seem to mind (for some reason) to cheat the government. It's pretty easy to do and to rationalize.

It was once guessed thsa 60% are full time residents. All I know is that we love it when the snowbirds leave. No more waiting for a table or dodging golf carts going the wrong way not to mention much safer roundabouts.

OK - I'm confused. Thread started with how many are residents here? Are we counting residents or full timers Vs. part timers? Am I reading between the lines that some people believe you have to be full time to be a resident? Many villagers own several homes and the Villages is their legal PRIMARY residence. Further clarification - to become a resident it is not as easy as waltzing into the DMV and getting a drivers license. The info of what's required is available on line. Also when I was granted my homestead exemption here someone from Florida called my secondary home state and inquired if I was claiming a primary home exemption there.

I'm a visitor. For the last 5 or 6 years, my sister and I have rented a home for two months (April and May, after the big crowds depart). At times, I also house and cat sit for owners of the home we previously rented.
