I've been once and my waitress was an airhead who got everything possible wrong on the order....wrong drinks, my sides on wife's order and vice versa, messed up check, etc.

Hard to mess up fried fish. Nothing spectacular.
Very nice setting on the river.

We have been there a few times. Good catfish and reasonably priced.

Definitely worth the 60 minute drive occasionally.

catfish, hushpuppies, french fries, and a little corn on the cob. nothing special and certainly not worth a 60 min drive!

We were there recently with out of state guests...
All ordered the fish platter...did not even review menu...fantistic ...servings were a plenty
Service great..overlooked a few things...didnot dampen the trip...
The grand view on the porch Which is "seat yourself first come first serve."
A quieter atmospher..went inside for ____ LOUD!
The drive was nice ....new views for the guests
Also, the winner ...we arrived early ..5pm..had parking spot and not packed

There are 2 stumpknockers-same restaurants but in different places-go to the one on the river and go for Captain Mikes boat ride down the river-both the trip and the food are well worth the drive. copy and paste the following address:

IMHO, the better food is at the downtown location, but if you're looking for scenery, then the river site is for you. Both have good food and we enjoy going there....a nice ride outside of the Villages. Downtown has a few shops to peruse.

I have had a large group there every year in February and they always do a great job. Good food, good service, and a fun atmosphere (outdoors). The boat ride that is available by reservation is a nice option. You won't regret going.

Had lunch there today! First time -2 dinners, appetizers, cold draft beer. Bill was just shy of 40.00. large portions, had to bring some home. Worth the drive and will definitely go back.

I agree......But the best choice is Reds which is only about 1/2 mile South on the same road (200). They serve the best breakfast and lunch that you will ever get. I especially can vouch for breakfast which is usually more than most can eat.

4 of us went to the Stumpknockers, in Inverness, Thursday, 5/1. All were very happy with their choice. 2 had the grouper grilled, with Everglades seasoning, 1 person had the special of the day, meatloaf. I had the fresh grouper blackened & grilled. My grouper was as good as any that I have had at any price and certainly the best I've ever had for $13.95. The inverness Stumperknocers can be hard to find, it's behind the old court house as you come into Inverness on hwy 44. Next fall whe I get back I'll definitely go to the other location on the river. The 4 of us were glad we went.

Stumpknockers is what I would call a destination resturaunt. The food is good, not excellent. The river view is beautiful and typical old Florida. It's not fancy but just what it's name implies. It is right on the river and the boat ride is nice. We go a couple of times a year. Go to Stumpknockers for the Florida experience.

I have been there a few times and the fried catfish dinner is excellent and a very reasonable price.

In Florida, a stumpknocker is a type of sunfish. Looks very similar to a bluegill.

I agree, been to both places and I think the river is better, too. You'll never find a better catfish. Their prime rib on the weekends is fantastic, also.

We dined there with our golfing group last Tuesday. It was our first time but others in the group have been there many times. We enjoyed the service, and the food was great. The river is very scenic and there is a pontoon boat that provides tours and allows for a close up of the nature living on the river.

We have been to the Inverness location several times and had GREAT food and service every time. When my sons come to the Villages we always take them there since they LOVE the food as well. Well worth the 45 - 50 minute drive. The All you can eat Catfish is the BEST you will ever put in your mouth and reasonably priced. The Coleslaw is awesome as well. Great atmosphere as well. The artifacts on the walls are really neat! I suggest you try it yourself to judge yourself. Our visits there have been awesome. We will try the restaurant on the river toward Ocala the next time we go but can not imagine the food could get any better than Inverness location!
