I saw this article (http://news.yahoo.com/python-bathroom-texas-132725962.html) today about a woman who left her back door open and had a unexpected guest in her house. No, it didn't happen in the Villages, but it could.

More details? Was the door left unlocked or did she just have the door wide open? I hope she wasn't hurt.
Back home we use to say "come in the doors open"----which means it was not locked. :spoken:

From the article.....................
Rodriguez believes the snake got in through a back door that she had left open earlier in the day while bathing her guinea pigs.
What more details do you need?

The article says its was a 12 foot python! They called 911 and it took three men to remove it.

Even though that was in Texas, we have those huge snakes in Florida. The wild ones are moving northward from the Everglades and have been spotted as close as Tampa. Also, do not forget about the stupid people who actually keep these deadly snakes as pets - and they sometimes get loose. About 3 years ago in Oxford - just on the outskirts of The Villages, two losers had one as a guard for their drug stash - it got out of the cage and killed their 2 year old son. They are in the pen for manslaughter now.

Hey, this happened in Texas. Maybe washing guinea pigs is a Texas thing. Just look at some of the things that Texas is famous for and giving a guinea pig a bath begins to look normal.

O really! Animals usually kept for pets are kept clean. I guess you didn't wash your dog if you ever had one? . Sometimes it just better to not post than reveal the skeletons that's in the closet!

Nope, never had a dog. Had a real clean guinea pig once. Never needed a bath.
Now to some strange Texan things: In 2010, Texas tied with Mississippi for the highest percentage of U.S. workers in minimum-wage jobs. In 2011, it had the 4th highest poverty rate of any state and it ranks 1st for adults without diplomas. It also leads the U.S. in children without health insurance, and 26% of all Texans have no health insurance.
Each year Amarillo hosts the Worlds Largest Calf Fry Cook-Off. Calf fries are bull testicles.
Texas experiences the most tornadoes in the United States, with an average of 139 per year.
If Texas were a country, it would rank as the worlds 7th largest producer of greenhouse gases.

How many are illegals? O I mean undocumented?
How are Texans responsible for tornado's? It so are Floridian's responsible for sink holes and Huricanes?
Green house gas? You know their are only few oil refineries and chemical refineries are usually in the southern states Like tx. and la. due to the gulf coast.
Calf Fries along with mountain oysters have been eaten for centuries, no different than liver, brains, or ribs. Just cause some people don't eat them don't make it bias's or backwards.

I
Keep my garage and all doors shut as I have experienced a rat snake get in and crawl under the fridge then somehow got behind the cupboards. I called animal control and they tried to get it but at 5 pm said it was time to go home! Put a pail with something heavy on it he told me and left.
Well I stuffed wet towels along my very closed bedroom door that night, got up in the morning and ate breakfast in the restaurant! When I got back there was the rat snake curled up beside my patio door. I climbed up on the kitchen counter took a broom and finally got the patio door open and it slithered out.
Now the doors are always closed or at least the screens across.
Yes I know rat snakes are not poisonous but they can grow over 6 feet. Even a litter racer snake scares me. Outside is where they belong.

I'm needing some info about what snakes are poisonous and what do they look like. I'm usually not afraid of snakes but then I need more education on these parts and what to be afraid of.

Just google "Florida venomous snakes" and look at the list and pictures from the state and university websites.
Here in The Villages, there are quite a few pygmy rattlesnakes that are found in the tall grasses around the ponds. They are venomous but will not kill a human. Dogs have been killed by them. You may also find water moccasins in or by the water.
Do not go into those tall grasses and you probably will never see a venomous snake.

We back on a golf course, but between our house and the golf course is an environmental area with ponds and tall grass surrounding them.
We've even had a small gator in one of the ponds.
There are red stakes between the golf course and the environmental area.
I'm always amazed at how many golfers go into the tall grass looking for golf balls.
It happens many times every day.

Ours is closed and /or the screen is down because of the palmetto bugs (yuck!!), geckos (or whatever that proper name for them is), and squirrels. We have 2 cats and that's a plenty for us.:laugh:
