Questions For Mid June Trip To TV

I will be coming down with the moving truck for 12 days and renting the house next door to ours in Collier. My husband cannot get off work and I'll be coming alone, which I'm rather nervous about. I'm sad I have to do this by myself and can't share the excitement with Tom.

I'll be using GPS from the Orlando airport but does it work in TV in the newer sections? I get lost easily and need to rely on GPS.

Where is the closest grocery store/drug store to Collier off Hendry Dr. and directions how to get there.

The house I'm renting comes with a golf cart and I have no knowledge of where the golf paths are or where to access them. Maybe someone can meet with me and show me the ropes? If so please pm me.

I am so excited and hope to meet some of you. Hopefully, I'll be there for the Crispers or happy hour meet ups, if I can find it.

Here is an online map of the golf cart paths. It also has many street names that may help in finding your way around.

Anyway, if you find yourself lost, just stop along the cart path and a villager will stop to show you the way. Welcome!

no worries,,i drove down by myself in july to get the house in order...18 hour drive, three days of buying everything for the empty house from furniture to dishes, and blinds..done in the three day time limit, never got lost, went to ocala, winter park and outskirts of orlando to get furniture..got back in the car and drove 18 hours to come back home...it is amazing what you can do when you are alone..

Thanks to those who responded. However, I am surprised by the lack of response. I have tried hard to make a connection with TOTV forum people. It seems I have failed.

I find it ironic that there are so many complaints about bad golf cart drivers and when I clearly asked for help only one person offered to show me the ropes. In the future please stop your complaining regarding stupid things cart drivers do.

Also not one person could take the time to type out how I can get to a grocery/drug store from Collier. No thanks to you I will not be starving to death and will knock on a neighbors door and ask them.

We have made two short visit to TV and both times we met people who gave us their calling card and invited us to stay at their house if we needed. We appreciated the gesture but would never consider doing such.

It seems people in TV are very friendly, but not so much on TOTV. At least not to me anyway. I have tried to connect with you many times and I'm done now. I consider it your loss in that you will not get the chance to meet us. We are great people who make friends easily. We will be just fine.

My husband advised for me not to start this thread. Instead, he suggested when I get there to rely upon neighbors to ask questions. I should have heeded his words and not posted and ended up feeling like a fool for asking.

Then I saw that Kathy had offered and that she would be showing you around so that the problem was solved. TOTVers are a bunch of good people and willing to help. The other day I posted I was looking for a small computer desk. I must have received 6 private messages telling me where to find one. I think we all just thought Kathy would be showing you around and you no longer needed our help. P.S. I would try finding my way around in the car first before I would venture out in the golf cart. That way you can get your bearings.

Yes, your right Kathie did offer to help and told me to call her, which I did and left a message 3 or 4 days ago. I have not heard from her.

I am glad people have been receptive to you as they are too many other people as well.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for me, as this is not the first time a thread of mine received little response.

Tipppppyyyyyyyy,,,, great fun talking to you this morning. I felt so bad when I saw this post. You did call me a few days ago, but I'm in the middle of selling my big Lantana house and I bought and closed on a CYV just this past week, so I've been like a one-armed paperhanger!!!! Soooo busy, but I will be readily available for you when you get here in mid-June. As we discussed, take the shuttle to Lake Sumter Landing (LSL) and I'll pick you up there, bring you to Enterprise to rent a car and then you follow me to your house. Then we will go food shopping, furniture shopping and DANCING TILL THE WEE HOURS!!! (shhhh don't tell hubby!!!!)

But so sorry I disappointed you, but my priorities right now were closing on my purchase and closing on the house I'm selling. But we will have fun and I will be there for you. Jnieman, if you need help, let us know, cause Tippy and I will be there for you tooooo.

That's true, Gene, and right now, I'm barely on the computer because I'm running back and forth between 2 houses, packing, unpacking, ordering contractors to do things for me,,, so I'm really not on TOTV at all. But Tippy and I connected today and we're okay. I can understand how overwhelming it is to come to a strange place by yourself, because I did it too, but I'm kinda tough and outgoing so I don't scare too easy.

I just wanted you to know its not such a scary place when you are alone. Since collier was not there when we were there last can't give you directions to a grocery..i just plug grocery or resturants in my phone and it gives me what is near me and then how to get there...sorry you are so upset

It is not getting lost that should concern you as much as golf cart rules. If possible have someone give you a crash course and explain the golf cart path entrances and exits, before you find yourself driving on a main highway. A great deal of us have been there, done that. One of my pet peeves is when you took the Lifestyle plan, nobody told us what to look for.
You will love, love, love this place. If I were going to be around when you arrive I'd have been more than happy to show you the golf cart rules but unfortunately i 'll be gone. Enjoy

Yes, your right TOTV is a great place. Guess I was disappointed with the low response because I am so excited to meet people from the forum. I've been reading it for 5 years.

Thanks to all who did respond and sent private messages. Its nice to know I will have some ladies to do things with. It means a lot and I am appreciative for your kind offers.

Tom Hannon you are so right about the Life style visit with them not explaining things. We didn't know about the golf paths and ended up on Morse Blvd. going across the bridge on the main street. How embarrassing, and dangerous. We were flagged down and someone escorted us to the path.

I really think it was a case of Kathie having seemingly taken care of your needs. I too am not familiar with the Collier area, Tippy, but if you get in a jam, please PM me. I'm sending you my phone # and email. I will lead you to a grocery store or wherever else you need to be. AND, we can share a glass or two of wine. If you want to go out to dinner, I'll do that too. Hubs can stay home and baby-sit the kids (dog and bird Girls night out.
