Have the driver park at Walmart and drive the car to you and you drive him back to his semi.

If you can go with it take the auto train From Florida to Lorton, VA.

Another vote for the Auto Train. Get on in Sanford, FL and get off in Lorton, VA, which is 25 minutes from Lorton.

what ever means you choose, if an auto transport, request the upper level....eliminates the risk of anything dripping from the vehicle above!

The autotrain is by far the least expensive way to go for the car, and your travel cost (air vs train) will be comparable. With the recent changes, take your own pillow and blanket as they now charge for these. Dinner and breakfast are included in the ticket price, and if you can sleep in a recliner, the seats are reasonably comfortable.

Just my thoughts, good luck.

PS> I have used the autotrain to move 4 vehicles south.

Coming from New York State, we had Allied for our movers. They loaded my large SUV right on the moving truck with my stuff. We didn't move any furniture, just boxes so there was a lot of room. We drove the SUV to the allied base where we lived and they drove it on the truck. When they got to Florida, we had a flat bed truck that backed up to the allied truck and I backed my SUV onto the flatbed and then drove it off of the flat bed. That part was a bit scary but all turned out well.

Two years ago, the cost of shipping my sedan inside the moving van from Pittsburgh to TV was an additional $1200. We drove the two cars down. I'm not sure we saved any $, but it was a lot of fun and we were able to bring some fragile stuff down safely.

I just got a quote from an auto transporter recommended here last week (dba New World Auto Transport) of $1895 to transport a car (totally enclosed) from Grand Rapids, MI, to a Long Beach, CA, port. That's roughly 2200 miles.

Probably the best guys out there is Reliable Carriers. With that said, they are NOT cheap. Your car will ride fully covered and insured. Reliable is used by the big auto auction companies such as Barrett-Jackson & Mecum to carry very expensive antique cars. They are an excellent company. But..you are indeed going to pay for the care that your car gets on the trip.

They are the ones I contacted online. When the agent contacted me by phone, he gave the name I mentioned, and that was the name on the email quote they sent to me. But he said they are both the same company. I didn't have any reason not to believe him, since my original online inquiry was with Reliable Carriers.

It may be that they do the enclosed auto transport through New World.

I shipped an Audi from CT to TV two years ago. It was almost $2000. I did the car train with the Audi to Lorton. It was a fraction. I think it was around $350 for both me and the car.

Yep, the shipping part is pricey. OP doesn't say if he can go with the car. If he can, auto train seems the best way.
