We are considering buying a car for keeping in The Villages. We are there 5-6 months right now, but not a FL resident yet.
If we buy a used car, can we register it in FL? If we buy a new car, have the same question. Will the dealership deliver it with FL tags?
Would be more convenient than driving back and forth, and prefer a smaller car there than my F150.
Thanks

And THIS is why I love theses boards! I would never have thought to ask this question until I was in the thick of it. I eagerly await the replies, too.

Yes to both your questions. There was a thread on here last winter started by Another Linda. If you can insure the car here (which she did), you can register it here no matter where you live.
That's my quick answer from imperfect memory. I'll try to find the thread for you.

Here is the thread I referred to. further down in the thread, Linda gives the answer of what how they were successful in regsitering the car. Hope this helps.

We have registered a new car and a used car in Florida while still being a NY resident. Zero problems.

If you you are only here part time for 5 or 6 months why would you register the car you are using here with florida plates? Just curious. I personally wouldn't unless I were here full time as it would be an unneccesary expense.

In my neighbor's case, it's because she lives in a state that requires inspections, and with the car down here, she can't ever take it back up there without a hassle because the inspection is expired.

Is homestead exemption possible either legally or not an answer?

I don't think so. You can have it in one state or the other, but not both. We kept our residence in MI till selling our condo, because even with homestead, the taxes up there were higher than here.
