Help With Home Owners Insurance

Hi Everyone,
We finally purchased our home in the Villages. Closing will be at the end of June. Hubby and I are very excited !
Retirement for us is still two years away, but we will be spending time at our new home on the week-ends and vacations etc. etc.
I'm hoping some of you can suggest where we might go for homeowners insurance.
I checked with the company that we have our current home insured with,
( we live in South Daytona right now ).
She quoted us approx. $1400 a year. I thought this was a bit high, but we were told it was because it is a 2nd home and not our primary residence.
Has anyone had any experience or knowledge about this.
Maybe $1400 is reasonable ??

I'm sure you will get a lot of posts on this subject. We just bought our policy yesterday as we close on 6/10. We went through The Villages Ins, Cynthia Ivy! And she was great to work with. The policy was half the price of State Farm and we have been with State Farm for nearly 40 years.

Unless you've got a Premier model, that sounds high to me.

Try The Villages Insurance Agency. I've found them to be consistently competitive (low), and I shop my policy every year. They also write such a large number of policies with only a few companies that if you have a claim, they can represent you very, very well. The importance of insurers keeping an agency which writes such a large number of policies happy is no small thing.

Just bought from AAA, around $600 for a large Gardenia, WITH sinkhole plus coverage, however this is with bundled auto insurance. Note sure if you can get house without auto.

We settled 2/15/14 and a second home. Thomas Insurance (Kate) 352-326-8021 was the only company that explained sink hole coverage to our satisfaction.

Your problem is that the home is not occupied full time. Be sure your policy covers a vacant home. Maybe having someone checking the home while you are away will help.

We closed on April 29. We are not here full time. I did shop around to five different agencies. I settled on Brad Burley at Great Florida Insurance in Leesburg. He had been recommended from someone on TV. It was the best rate.

We are closing at the end of the month and we got our insurance through TV for substantially less. Of course this may or may not be germane depending upon the home you've purchased, the coverage riders you've elected, deductible you've chosen, etc.

Yes you can get house insurance without auto. They write for 5 home insurance companies. I got my insurance at AAA with Nancy Sorrentino 352-753-2500 ext 2253
