Golf Cart purchase

Hi all, I am going to "pick your brains". We would like to buy a golf cart, and we don't know where to begin. We are new here and have never driven one before.
We know we would like a gas model.
Our questions are:
Where is the best place to purchase one?
What " bells and whistles" should we addd?
Which brand is "better?"
Is "roll up" curtains better than the hard plexi/plastic doors?
Buying new vs a used cart?

Not a problem, I have done a months legwork that I can share with you. My search concluded two options that are above the others.
The Villages Golf Carts sell Yamaha gas carts and are trustworthy and have good service. My choice though is Carts and Clubs also a Yamaha dealer, immediately south of Ocala. The prices from both dealers will be nearly the same BUT Carts and Clubs include free, the following that Villages Carts do not, a fuse panel, noise dampening totally insulated engine compartment, steering wheel cover, sand bottle, 12 pack cooler, heavy duty wiring, flat rate service calls, more zippers and less snaps, and nearly all service done at your home. These free options add up t a tidy sum and made my choice a little easier when I purchased my 1 month old Yamaha from Carts and Clubs. They are located on the right side(going north) of 27/441 a little south of Ocala. Big Yamaha sign out front. Good luck.

I would also recommend you spring for high end seats. (No pun intended). You'll be using the cart a lot and comfort goes a long way toward enjoyable riding.

Thanks for the good info. I am going to be purchasing soon also and have all the same questions. Is used better than new? And how old is too old in gas carts?

Since I am a snow bird I bought a 2 yr. old Yammi, 4 passenger from Kim; she is very knowledgeable & has a great eye for color combinations. We don't get that much company, BUT when we do the 4 pass. comes in very handy especially the large cooler under the rear seat for hauling groceries.

We bought new from carts and clubs and could not be happier. If you go gas, my opinion is Yamaha from carts and clubs.

Just curious, based on your first two comments how did you arrive at the decision to only "like" a gas model?

We felt somewhat the same way but after looking and trying both gas and electric soon realized our initial opinions of both types did not prove to be as influential in our final decisions as we initially thought they would be.

Our first suggestion would be not to rush into your first purchase…give yourself at least a few weeks of living in TV to get your feet on the ground and have a better sense of how you will use your cart(s).

Please don't let my comment turn this thread into a "war" between gas vs. electric carts. My question is a sincere one and offered from our experiences in making the same decisions for our two golf cart purchases.

You should consider an E-Z-GO from Town & Country Golf Cars n ext to the Publix in Spanish Springs. Ask for Kyle, the owner. Or BJ, their terrific mechanic will help you as well. They sell either electric or gas carts.

As far as gas or electric is concerned, the electric E-Z-GO's will go a verified 60 miles on a charge. More importantly their RXV models will go up hills just as fast as the go on flat roads. What's best of course is that there's no need to fill the gas tank and no noise or exhaust smell. There's a reason why E-Z-GO is the largest selling golf cart in the world, by a long shot.

Maybe the best advice that Kyle gave me when I was deciding between gas and electric about eight years ago was to note that any kind of cart would do well to average 10 miles an hour while driving around The Villages. Considering the range of the carts he asked, "...are you ever going to spend six hours a day driving in your golf cart?"

I spent a fair amount of time considering which kind of cart to buy and where to buy. The end of the story is we ordered a new fuel injected gas Yamaha cart from Carts and Clubs in Ocala. It was a "flip of the coin" decision between gas and electric - they each have good and bad points. Once we decided on a gas cart, we only looked at The Villages Golf Cars and Carts and Clubs.

To address your questions, we felt that Carts and Clubs gave us a bit more for the money, will do servicing at our home, and we liked the enclosure better than what was on the carts at The Villages Golf Cars. We didn't consider the hard doors - didn't see the need. You should seriously consider getting upgraded seats as we found the standard bench seats too hard. We got a storage shelf but no other options except they will lower the steering wheel for a more comfortable driving position for my wife.
