We plan to hire a home inspector within the next couple of months. Would appreciate any recommendations.

The safest way to select a home inspector is to pick one certified by the American Society of Home Inspectors. To do that, go to this site
American Society of Home Inspectors, ASHI (http://www.ashi.org/)

When we bought our house in TVs, we lived in Nevada. We hired an inspector from Orlando to come and inspect our home in order to receive a completely impartial, accurate appraisal, which we received. Just google Realtors in Orlando, and call one, ask for the manager, and get the name of an inspector. Cost us around $200, which is pretty standard.

Frank D'Angelo is the best! He is very professional and goes the extra mile. We had to change our time because of a family health issue so he did our inspection on a Friday which is usually his day off. We also needed a 4-point inspection for insurance reasons and he did much extra work on it and dropped the forms off at our house. Make sure you book a time well in advance since he is very busy.

I usually do not comment on threads like this unless asked to......but I just wanted to comment on this post. While I totally respect the opinion above, it somewhat infers that to "get a good inspection" you must go out of town.
While I cannot speak for all inspectors, as an ASHI Certified Inspector, I have an ethical obligation to the potential buyer who hires me. I do not work for The Villages or any Realtor. I am not "in bed" with any Realtor or The Villages in any way. I on purpose am not on any "Approved Villages" list.
Because I do inspections on homes in The Villages every day, I know the homes and models very well. I know where to look and what to look for and what I'll find when I do. An Inspector who normally works 40 miles away may not.
Buckeyephan...thank you for the kind words. I very much appreciate them.
willie72.......if you are looking to buy a home in The Villages, congratulations, and good luck on your search!
Respectfully, Frank

D'angelo is fabulous. I did have him inspect. thorough, personable, quick response, follow through, less $$ than I had thought..
