Hello everyone,
My name is Nick. My wife Debbie and I just received a very good offer on our home here in Long Island and are excited about starting a new chapter of our lives in the beautiful Villages.
Since our son (24) currently lives with us we are wondering is there a timeframe that he can stay with us in TV while he finds a suitable location for him to move to. Thanks for your answers and I can't wait to become an official Villager!

Since he is over age 19, there is no time limit.

He can stay forever (probably not what you had in mind). You must be 19 to be a villages resident. Under 19 can visit with a guest pass for 30 days per year. Your son will get a non-owner resident pass which, I believe is good for 2 years.

Several friends have (for one reason or another ) had their adult children live with them here . Of course there are not too many fun things for them to do. That being said , I believe he would be welcomed by neighbors as you will be! Suggestion, he can post on "Talk" to help him find others near his age . If he drives there is always Ocala,as surrounding areas here are not considered very safe in evenings.

There is plenty of night life right here in the villages. You just have to wait until 9 o'clock when the old folks leave. Many employees in the villages in that age bracket frequent gators dockside, lighthouse, margavitteville, r j gator, which are all open in the wee hours.

Can a person live with you to help you with your needs if they are between 19 & 55? (Non Family)

If you are going to put it out there that "surrounding areas here are not considered very safe in evenings", would you be so good as to clarify where/what those area are and what is unsafe about them? Thanks.

There are tons of fun things to do for younger people in The Villages. Of course they all end at 9:00, but I've played pool with younger residents and have seen many visiting adult children participating in all of the activities we have.
Of course, if they are interested in night life, as has been pointed out, there are a lot of places, even in our town squares that are open late. And as far as safety goes, The Villages has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. I don't know how anyone can say that it's not safe here. It is far more safe than Ocala.
Unless by "surrounding areas" you're talking about Wildwood, it's very safe here.

As long as the person living with you is 19 or older they can live here full-time. If they have a FL drivers license/ID card with your Villages address they can get a non-owners Villages Resident ID card. We just went through this with our 20 year son who is a college student but lives with us during school breaks.

you're 24 year old can even get his own ID with proof that it's his residence--such as bank statement, driver's license.

Nope. 19 or older.

I thought The Villages was an age restricted community? Above 55. Did that change? So, young people 19 and above can buy and live in the Villages? I am confused.

Clarification of my post" surrounding areas" was a description of the towns surrounding TV. Absolutely not referring to TV. The TV police and residents all keep our TV safe and secure at the highest level ! It is my belief that the surrounding communities have a fairly high rate of drug arrest and illegal activities. This is public knowledge accessible through those towns police reports.

Federal housing law state that up to 20 percent of the primary owners may be under 55. The internal rules of The Villages restricts permanent residents to age 19 or older.

FWIW.....not important to thread, but ...
At least 80% of the units must be occupied by at least one resident over the age of 55;

Federal law says 80% must be 55 or older, that leaves about 11,000 that can be 19 - 54

Hi Erijo,
We are from Selden LI, just south of Port Jefferson. And yes we will be joining the LI club when we arrive. It is a painstakingly slow process in the home selling/buying process in LI.

I thought that is what you meant, Lauren. But I would have to disagree re those 'surrounding areas' being any worse than TV. Past articles re break-ins and robberies, the bust of a meth house or two, daytime disputes among drivers and the recent articles re DUIs in TV certainly cast a different light than the one you see.
Trouble can be created and/or found anywhere in the area; as can safe areas of enjoyment! Folks should not be put off from bringing their children to live with them here in TV because of 'surrounding areas'.

I totally disagree! The surrounding towns of Wildwood, Lady Lake, Oxford, and Leesburg are NOT as safe as The Villages! The burglars thar have been caught are from those areas. They are all pretty seedy towns with lots of poverty and above national average in crimes.:ohdear:

So the fact that they commit crimes in the Villages rather than the communities where they live makes the Villages safer?

they're not not committing crimes in the communities where they live.

Are you forgetting about the shooting death of the father of four young children last August in Wildwood? He was killed while locking up his business for the night. The alleged shooter was caught and is awaiting trial. This was much more tragic than a meth house bust.

They are also committing lots of crime in their towns. If you honestly believe that Wildwood or Leesburg are as safe or safer than The Villages, I think you should try walking alone around midnight down their backstreets and compare it with walking anywhere in The Villages at the same time.

Mr. Big:
An age restricted senior community like The Villages CAN have up to 20% of the residents under the age of 55. However, in The Villages they must be no younger than 19 whether they live with a family member or not.
