Moving Help or Ideas

We are moving from Syracuse, NY to the Villages. We already own a patio villa, so will only be bringing a bedroom, a bookcase and a small hall table, along with household stuff (already have things in TV so this too is not much). Quote from pods was $2,800, using Villages relocation moving companies were around the same. The only reasonable quote we got was from Uhaul, who has pods ($1,500), and this includes some one to load it in NY. Has anyone used them? Everything will be going into storage until we find a bigger house. Any other ideas for a small move?

I moved here last year from the Rochester NY area and spent a lot of time trying to figure the best option. I finally rented a small Uhaul truck for about $1200. I used their option of having 2 guys to help load (they were magnificent) at that end and 2 to help unload here. It was fairly painless and with fuel and helpers it was about $1800.
The Uhaul pods are small and all of the other POD type companies were vague on delivery. I also read, on this blog, of horror stories of PODS jacking up the price at the last minute.

We used Lowes Pack Rat POD from RI and we packed and unloaded it ourselves. Everyone we talked to at Customer Service was professional and knowledgeable. We had a 16 ft Pod about $2800. We found this to be the best bet as we did not want to drive a UHaul with the car being towed in the back.
