View Full Version : Items For Sale = Classified Section

Hello All -

TOTV is the largest and fastest growing website in The Villages! The items for sale section has had a large participation and now it is time for an upgrade. We are in the process of rolling out a new and improve classified/items for sale section. You will now see that all new items for sale will be in a segregated area of the site. We will also work to roll out an 'opt in' for the forum notices that appear in the 'new posts'. We believe this new program will offer many more benefits to all the users of this section. There will be larger pictures, a best offer and buy it now feature, seller ratings, and much much more. At the same time we will be able to accommodate those who did not care to see all the new posts with items for sale but the ones who do prefer this can opt in.

As with anything new, there will be a few bugs to work through and we ask for your patience in this process.

The existing items for sale will remain there. After they have been listed for 45 days they will be removed as all new items are entered into the new program.

Please feel free to contact us with any issues or feedback you may have as you use this new product. As always we appreciate your continued support!

Best Regards,

TOTV Team

You should be seeing the NEW Classified in the new post. Every time an item is listed in that section a post will automatically generate. Once the bugs are worked out and it is running smoothly we will add the 'opt in' / 'opt out' option for users as to whether they want to see the items for sale in their 'new posts'.

Thanks!

7% commission charged and PayPal charges????

We are not sure what you are referring to? If you want to be paid via paypal you can or just get cash when you meet in person. If you are experiencing something different please let us know. The PayPal is a new feature where you can be paid via that method as a convenience.

When you read Panjo Marketplace terms here Terms (http://www.panjo.com/terms) this whole thing gets kinda scary.

#3. Panjo may charge fees for listing an item for sale, as well as a percentage of the sale price when the item sells.

Does this mean the items now posted may be charged a listing fee??

TOTV Team

There are no listing fees or selling fees. It is free as always to buy and sell your items.

No fees for listing or selling your items. It is free as it always has been. If you choose to use paypal as a convenience then the fees are whatever their normal fees would be for their service. You can get paid however you have been and however you prefer.

Panjo charges fees to sellers who create listings at Panjo.com and the Panjo iOS app. There are no Panjo fees for TalkOfTheVillages sellers.

Appears that with your partnership with Panjo that selling items through TOTV will now cost the seller 7% plus PayPal fees, if that option is used. List for free but pay to sell.

there are 2 stories here, this needs to be cleared up! If the admins of this board are receiving revenue on the backs of sellers they need to come clean! It is not a sin to make money, however it is a sin to decive some one to make that money using dishonest methods. Ok admins, manup what are ALL the facts here. Your credibility is at stake on this issue.

1) Panjo does NOT charge TOTV users for listing OR selling.

2) Panjo does NOT charges TOTV user for listing OR selling.

3) Panjo does NOT charge TOTV users for listing OR selling.

IF YOU USE THE PANJO APP OR GO TO PANJO.COM YOU WILL BE CHARGED BY THEM FOR USING THEIR PRODUCTS.

You CAN list your items for sale here WITHOUT a PayPal account or listing your PayPal account. If that is not what you are experiencing please let us know so we can investigate further.

If you don't want to take our word for it then contact Panjo directly to verify. We have written communication between them and us that TOTV users are not charged for listing or selling as this is a collaboration we have created with them for the benefit of TOTV users.

TOTV MAKES $0 FROM YOUR LISTING OR SELLING. WE HAVE INVESTED $$$$ TO INTEGRATE AND NEGOTIATE THIS NEW PRODUCT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF TOTV USERS THOUGH.

Yes ONLY residents of The Villages are allowed to post in the classified section. We frequently remove items for sale that are outside of The Villages. The classified section is exclusively for the residents of The Villages. Unlike Craigslist we feel that if ONLY residents in The Villages can sell items on here it creates a safer environment for everyone.

We require any items that are being listed can only be from someone that lives inside The Villages as a resident. There is not a 100% way but the posting are monitored and we are diligent in removing any that are not posted by residents of The Villages.

I don't understand your statement. If you read what Admin said, you are buying directly from neighbors. Before, anyone and everyone could open a membership in TOTV and start selling stuff. And they did. And they were from anywhere and were using the site as a Craig's List. Anyone who's ever dealt with Craig's List knows you open yourself up to all sorts of security issues. You don't know where the sellers come from.

Now you are pretty much assured that the people you are buying from are residents of The Villages. So what if you're going through a third party? It's another layer of security.

Well I don't know about that security statement. I think it would be another layer for a potential sercurity breech. I find the new method slower and more steps to look at items for sale. It is difficult to get more info on a particular item and then go back to look the main list. I haven't even tried to post anything for sale yet.

From the terms and conditions, I pulled this quote:
12. Privacy

Panjo will not sell or disclose your personal information (as defined in the Privacy Policy) to third parties without your explicit consent. Panjo stores and processes Content on computers located in the United States that are protected by physical as well as technological security.

My assumption, based on respect for TOTV's class act, is that they would never agree to place their users in a position to receive spam

here's the entire privacy policy...readable...my take is this won't result in email spam and whatever they learn about me, google and the world already know.

Unless a website is custom coded, you are using a 3rd party. This site and most sites use 3rd party software, the clubs on this site is from a 3rd party, much of the functionality you use in the functionality of this site is 3rd party.

You are buying directly from neighbors. This is FREE. Not sure what you mean by 'sad to see it get sold off'?

So far we have had by far an overwhelming positive response publicly and privately and that the new classifieds are easier to use. You mention you haven't even tried to post anything. If you do then let us know what could be improved.

I just took some time to look through and my reaction is

I apologize if I missed this or I am wrong in my assumption as I did not read every post. It looks to me like a user has to "opt-in" to see for sale things when they click new posts.

My only comment is that "as an occasional seller" it would be my preference that all users see classified ads in New Posts unless they opt out.

I just wonder how many will opt-in or will even know to...

Will not affect me either way, love the site, thanks for setting this up!

I love the opt-out button. When you choose that option, a button appears to "show classifieds," so you can opt back in whenever you want. Most of us use the forum as a for communication only. I am so happy not to have to wade through a host of classifieds to get to the forum posts. The classifieds were escalating, and the forum was starting to look like Craig's List, with people posting 10 items for sale in ten different posts, instead of one post with ten items.

Thanks for this feature, Admin!

I don't have to. Before someone started using it as Craigs List and others joined in, there were very few classifieds, and certainly never 7 in a row by one person trying to sell things for $2.06. Ridiculous.

Even after that the ratio of community posters to classified posters was mainly people who wanted to communicate. The fact that they post each item separately is what became so annoying to those of us looking for topics, not yard-sale items.

Everyone will have differing opinions.

#1 - Only Residents of the Villages can post items for sale in this section. Not the case with Craigslist.

#2 - Any user can now opt out and only see the discussion posts if that is what their heart desires and never again see a classified post.

#3 - The success of the classified section has brought additional new users to the site who have engaged in discussions and not just post a classified item and these users have made new friends on the site and made useful contributions. The site provides different resources for different people. Some never post at all but just read. Some come for only specific reason or information. That is all very well and good. All users and visitors are welcome as long as they follow the site rules.

#4 - Everyone can decide on what their definition of success is. But in just over 1 month since we incorporated the new classifieds as of today we are able to report the following:

1,888 Users have listed items for sale valuing $2,463,645.55
601 Items marked as sold valuing $320,047.46
945 Items listed for sale currently valued at $1,947,431.75

We thank everyone for their input, feedback, and continued support which has made TOTV the largest website in The Villages! We continue to grow organically every year at near 30% a year. Our unique visitors this year are up 27.09% over last year according to Google and we continue to grow thanks to your support!
