Baseball fans have lost "Popeye". Don Zimmer played with Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was on the original Mets coached by Casey Stengal, he was both a Red Sox and a Yankee, and a lot of other stuff in between. A great baseball man through and through.

Sad to see this. He was truly a character. I wonder if Pedro Martinez will be one of his pall bearers.

I was a youngster in the Elmira, NY area when Don Zimmer played minor league ball for the Elmira Pioneers before called up to the Dodgers. He was married at home plate at Dunn Field in Elmira and was always revered throughout his career by everyone. I remember when he was hit in the head with a pitch which fractured his skull and still returned to play his heart out. God bless Don.

Popeye was a great baseball man. And quite a character. From a Yankee fan, "Pedro did nothing wrong." He pushed Zim away...nothing else. Zim was the one who attacked Pedro.

Zim was one of the few basebal players, who told funny stories.

Great baseball man, who spent six decades devoted to baseball.

A great family man who will be missed by all!!!

RIP - Don

I couldn't agree more, Tom. And Zim had the class to apologize profusely for it afterward. He realized he had gotten caught up in the moment and done a stupid thing.

I always like Zimmerman when he was the Red Sox skipper even though the never really accomplished much under him. In Boston we used to call him "The Gerbil" because the camera often would catch him chewing on sunflower seeds.

My mom was a huge Red Sox fan.

She died Wednesday at 93 on the same day as Don Zimmer.

We plan to mention that at the funeral.

Just watched an awesome tribute to Zim before the Rays vs. Mariners game. It brought tears to my eyes.
