I am coming to visit next month and am seriously considering TV and have a couple of questions. I am a single 56 year old female. Would I fit in and be able to make friends? I am also a service connected disabled Veteran. Has anyone used the VA clinic there and if so how is it.

I believe you would have no problem fitting in. I am not single, but do as many activities with my circle of girl friends as with couples. My neighborhood was in the building phase when we moved in so it was very easy to meet new neighbors. The ones that were already here stopped by to make introductions as soon as we moved in and we've tried to carry on with that practice as the homes around us became occupied. There are mostly couples that live around us, but there are a few singles. Should I become single again, I don't know of a place I'd rather be than right here.

I can't tell you anything about the VA clinic, but I would direct you to the Singles section of TOTV. I am not single, but I've noticed there are frequent posts in that section for get togethers and fun things to do as a group, so I would expect you to have no problems fitting into the many opportunities TV and that group have to offer.
I would add that our neighborhood group has several singles as members and all our activities are set up for individuals vs. couples to participate. So I would expect you would be welcomed no matter where you buy if TV looks good to you.

There are about 65,000 homes in The Villages and about 100,000 residents. Consider that some people have adult children living with them, it's easy to see that there are plenty of single people here.
You'll fit right in. I can't speak from experience about the VA, but from everything I've heard, everyone who has used it seems very satisfied.

Check the singles section as there are many events to attend.
chachacha is good at organizing meet and greets.
You can always PM her.

The VA Clinic is at the northern most end of TV off CR42 near Mullbery Plaza. I live near 466A and it takes about 30 minutes to reach there, from Brownwood probably 35-40 minutes. It opened in 2010, so it is relatively new and it is big for a clinic, about the size of a grocery store.
When I had orientation in July 2011 they said they had 12 doctors and were staffed to have 16 eventually and each doctor would have about 1200 to 1600 patients. I was only on the waiting list for one month before getting my orientation and my first doctor's visit. A fellow on my softball team came here two months after me and he waited over a year to get his orientation. Somewhere in late 2011 they must of started getting saturated.
Normally I get a notice to report to the lab every six months for a blood test and the doctor or his nurse will call me at home with the results. About once a year you'll actually get to see the doctor. For something like a stress EKG or to see a specialist you'll need to go to the VA hospital in Gainesville, although they will do colonoscopies at the clinic. The hospital is a little over an hour away via I-75 and they do have an early morning bus for those that need transportation.
I was in that hospital about a year ago for 3 days, the actual hospital section is only about two years old and everyone had private rooms. It was very nice for a government hospital. The biggest problem with Gainesville is the lack of parking, although they had a big parking garage under construction last year when I was there.

as a single person this is a great place to be. many singles express that feeling as well. In fact many singles say they move here because there is so much a single person can do. there are activities for all activity levels. the single baby boomers (of which you would be eligible to join) has many things to do. you can play billiards, go out to movies and dinner, bowl, fish....many of the clubs have singles tables so at social events you meet other singles. sometimes it seems there are too many things to do....I even look forward to a couch potato night! as for the VA...it is a new, beautiful facility. It is an outpatient clinic, not a hospital. so for specialists or hospitalization you would go to Gainesville, though a new hospital will be opening in Orlando so don't know if that will be a possibilty, too. but for most routine labs and appts. the clinic can service you well. most medications refills would be thru the mail system but they have an on site pharmacy for new orders.

I am a single woman who rented in TV for April. I had
A golf cart only and found lots to do. I had a routine and that held me together. I swam every day in the Caroline pool
.i met new friends who I am emailing with. The readers, the birders, swimmers and neighbors were all terrific.

Not a singe...
My husband and I moved here last May to have the VA orientation shortly after applying.
He has received great care here and at the VA Gainesville Clinic
Initially ,we applied for hearing aids which have been a wonderful addition to his daily use.
Although we use several private doctors too, the Va sent us information for Tom's yearly check up and shots.
Now, we are in the process to receive home health care along with some of the safety aids provided by them.
All of the staff are very knowledgeable in their respectable positions.
Their need from us is to follow their requests/rules, since they are busy.
We also get reminders for the appointments via phone and letter besides the hand out if we are in the clinic.....
So, welcome to your new home and make an appointment as soon as you get here...
You are welcome to PM me for any other comments....especially when you get here....

Mardel,
I'm also a single veteran who is planning to move to TV someday. I've visited twice and found a lot of very friendly people there. I have many of the same questions that you do, including the quality of care at the VA clinic. I hope you find TV to be a great place for you and I'm anxious to hear your experience. Let us know what you find out during your visit next month.
Thanks for serving!

There are various veteran groups here. In terms of age concerns, you might want to check out the Singles Baby Boomers. They have many activities, including outings, such as lunch, dinner at various restaurants in and outside The Villages. They also have a monthly mixer on Thursday. Many seem to be quite caring as well and contribute to some charities. As some others have mentioned, we have a Singles thread in TOTV, which you may have already discovered. It is great for casual, spontaneous get-togethers. There are also quite a few State groups, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, etc.
What dates in July will you be visiting here?
