We have all waited for this for such a very long time. Michelle Wie won her first major championship today, by winning the U.S. Open by two strokes over Stacy Lewis.

Michelle started the day in a tie for first place with Amy Yang. At the start it did not appear that this was going to be Michelle's day as she and her playing partner (Yang), both bogeyed the first hole. At that point in the tournament there were 6 players within 3 strokes of the lead. When So Yeon Ryu birdied 1, 2, and 4, she pulled within 2 strokes of the leaders.

A major victiory is a great boost, for one's confidence. I remember when she started at 13, wanting to play against the boys. Now 27, and coming in to her own.

Congrats, Michelle. You earned it!!!!

Actually she is 24. I believe she would have had much better success if she never would have attempted to play with the men. Whether it was her idea or her parents it was so ill-advised and brought her so much negative opinion. I still can't call myself a fan of hers.

I think what happened to her earlier in her career is typical of what we do with all the brilliant young players we have. The "sports world" builds them up, feeds their egos, they have the wrong people "handling" them and making as much money off them as they can, and usually they fall by the wayside. Look what they did with this 11yr old this weekend, at 11 she is not ready for the big league - but that is just my opinion.

I am pleased to see Michelle finally win big.
