This morning my garage door opened by itself. No one was anywhere near the remotes or outside the house. Has this ever happened to anyone and does anyone have a possible explanation?

Ours did that several times, called for service. We owned a Hyundai Santa Fe at the time. The service guy said that certain Hyundai Santa Fe remotes were on the same frequency and would open and close garage doors. Our car was not the problem, but a neighbor had company that had one and we watched it happen. We have also this happen several other times, each one a Santa Fe!! Check out your neighbors cars or their visitors....

Had the frequency changed on ours under warranty. Only takes a few minutes. You can change it yourself if you have the manual and are handy.

It happened to me a bunch of times. Really scary and confusing. I was checking the door all hours of the day and night since I always leave it closed.

I changed the code and it quit.

Our door did the same one night for no reason.

Ro Mac door openers use a 9 digit fixed code. Need to reprogram your openers to a new code or it may happen again.

SEE PAGE 11 of your owners manual and just follow the instructions. The very last page of the instructions has a place to record the new codes you program which makes it a little easier.
You use the +,-, or 0 button to choose each of the 9 codes and record it in block 1, then block 2, and so on until finished.

From the manual Page 11.....
STEP 3: Using the
operation buttons on the
front of the transmitter,
enter a 9-digit random code.
Every time a button is pressed
the LED will turn off and on.
After the 9-digit code is
entered, the LED will blink twice to confirm a valid code and
remain off.

We had the same issue, even after changing the code. We changed it one more time just to be sure that the change "took". However, we put the "lock" on the garage door opener when we are away from the house for extended periods of time.

happened to my neighbor...somehow my remote started working on his door as well as mine...he figured it out when he noticed me leaving or coming at the same time his door opened and closed....he had Romac do a tune up on the door and they reprogrammed it.

We had it happen with a neighbor about five houses away. They changed their code, and all was well. Good luck!

I watched the airport shuttle pick up my neighbor and then 5 minutes later her garage door opened. I went over there to close it and she had it on LOCK. I had to unlock it, hit close and run out the door stepping over the electric eyes that would stop the closing.
I can't figure out how it could open when it was on lock. RoMax told her that they don't know exactly why but could probably be the new cell phones or other electronics. They offered to come out and reprogram it for about $130.
I would suggest anyone going away for more than a day to unplug the opener.

Our wall unit lock switch failed. It became hard to move from locked to unlocked. I did wonder if it really changed the setting. I wonder if your neighbor's switch may have failed or be defective. I do know when mine is set to Locked, I can't open the door with the remotes or the exterior keypad.

Remember if your door openers have never been re-programmed, there is someone out there that has your code since they programmed it originally.

Slightly off topic but I need another car remote for an additional golf cart that I recently bought. Where can I purchase one?

Thanks

We got additional remotes online. We did a search for AllStar and found several sellers. Make sure you match the frequency the opener operates on.

We did not install a romax. All of neighbors could open up everyone's door. Went with a chamberlain that I can check with my phone so if we are not home I know if my door is opened

I had a similar problem several months ago. Went out in the golf cart, put the remote in my pocket when I got to my destination. When I came home and pushed the button to open the garage door, my next door neighbor's garage door opened instead, and mine did not. I did a Google search and learned how to reprogram the code to my garage. Unfortunately, when I tried it both doors opened. After much checking the internet was able to deprogram the neighbor's code. I suspect the neighbor's code was probably one digit different than mine. This does make one wonder if there are devices out there that can break the codes

I agree. If your garage door opens by itself, you're living in a haunted house. Call: Ghost Busters!

I installed chamberlain myq belt driven openers, super quiet compared to chain driven, rolling coded technology and will send me alerts on my smartphone if the door remains open for more than set time, door will automatically close after set time interval. You can also open and close from smartphone app.
