Would LOVE to find a person who is crazy about dogs to take care of my Toby in their home while I am on a 3 day trip back to Reno. I have a friend with cancer who has just been put in hospice and I would love to go and see him while he is still relatively well. Since I just moved here, I'm not tied into the dog sitting community yet and would appreciate your suggestions. My Toby is a small, 12 pound bundle of energy, poodle/bichon mix. He is a love - very social. Likes most other dogs altho big dogs who try to intimidate him could be a problem. Thank you for any suggestions. Steph

Tainsley, I could use that number also. I have a 4 pound, 6 year old chihuahua named Fabio that will be needing some loving while we are out of town. He's changed many folks minds about the breed....yep, that cute of a personality!

You don't mention the dates. We had a Maltese who died last year. We absolutely love dogs. We have dog sat for our neighbor's Scott Terrier before.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will keep the names and numbers handy. Unfortunately, my friend passed away while I was looking for a pet sitter and making my travel plans. I'm in the process now of trying to pick another date to travel to see his wife and check in with friends in California - so you may get a call from me!. Thank you. Stephanie

What is the going rate for a dog sitter these days?
The "least expensive" (home) pet sitter I have found is $15 each day

Does anyone know who will cat sit in their home? The cat is my daugthers and she lives in Lady Lake She wants to join the family up north at Thanksgiving and does not want to leave her alone. We would do it except we will be up north with her. This is for 4 or 5 days
Thanks Joe

After following recommendatios concerning Miss Paradis I returned after leaving my 8 lb dog and food, the next day 23 hours later at 1:30 pm to be told I would be charged for 3 days because she was not picked up by deadline of 10 am
I had asked repeatedly when would be a good time and "convenient" to pick my dog up and was never told of any deadline
Money is nothing to me but "principle and quality people" are
SHE HAS LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER !

That really stinks. Was it the sitter you quoted in your post? She will not last long with that kind of customer service.

Something does not compute. I could understand a charge for two days for a dog left 23 hours, but not three and even that would require some strange times for drop off and pick up. I've known Yvonne for over ten years. She is one of the sweetest, most honest people I have ever met. Sounds like a total miscommunication to me.

It's no big deal and I certainly don't hold you responsible for your friend. She may have good references but I'm just telling you what our experience was as my wife was the one that picked up our dog and had it been me I would not have paid the extra. Maybe she didn't like my wife. Who knows but as the song say's.... "Once bitten twice shy" and it's no big deal as my wife is the one that says this has shown "us" the quality of a person and will not go back. I just can't understand why after my asking when it would be convenient for "her" as to what time to pick up our dog....she NEVER mentioned a 10 am "deadline"
Headed to Atlanta..... Enjoy your day :crap2:
It's over and done with...... Gotta keep my bride happy and has taught us to "ASK QUESTIONS FIRST"
Enjoy your day

I also had a horrible sitter stay in my home. She ignored feeding instructions, trained the cat to litter in house vs lanai, rearranged dozens of personal items in my home, and used a credit card left for pets to the vet emergencies to buy herself food.
Sitters Initials are B F.

Think I'd be calling the police if that happened. Using your credit card for personal usage is theft, plain and simple.

We have a 10 year old 55 lb Labradoodle and need to have someone take her in for a week in April while we are away. We have had sitters come to our house before, and she didn't do well with that arrangement.

Hi!
Reading through the posts on pet sitters & saw you have a larger dog. Did you find someone & would you recommend to me?

We use Bonnie at comfortofhome4pets.com. She prefers big dogs. She has fenced acreage and a doggie door in her house. They are only crated for meals. They each have a dog bed in her bedroom. She will pick up and deliver. If they're there for a while, she bathes them before they go home.
As soon as our dog realizes we are there, his wagging tail starts destroying the car. He jumps out at the entry gate, bounds into her golf cart to ride down to the house, and never looks back. He's like, Don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out!
