Bought a used '07 ParCar a few months ago. Runs fine, new batteries, but I'm wondering if the slight "scraping" noise that takes place when I take my foot off the accelerator means anything. Sounds like it's coming from the motor or transmission area. Not a problem right now, but I'm wondering if this is "normal" or not. Is this some sort of "regeneration" brush system designed to recharge the batteries during de-acceleration?

Scraping is not normal. That area of the cart could be axel bearing, input shaft bearing or packing or motor bearing. Do not go to long without having it checked.

Still do no like scraping, not normal.

I think this cart has a regenerative braking system - when you let off the accelerator, some brushes engage and it puts some energy back into the batteries. Correct? If so, this is what I think I'm hearing. Probably "normal". Since I haven't experienced this type of system before, it may be what I'm hearing. It only happened when I take my foot off the accelerator and coast to a stop.

The motor has regenerative qualities and ALL the brushes are in action after the accelerator
Is released. The motor at that point turns into a mild generator and sends voltage back two red the batteries.
This action should NOT produce a scraping sound unless the four unit large brush assembly is worn or loose. I believe it is worth checking into.

Should there be ANY sound at all? Perhaps I am being too critical of what I am hearing. Is it normal to hear SOMETHING back there that is different when you take your foot off the accelerator and slow down?

My ParCar has a pulsing scraping sound when you let up on the gas or apply the brake. After almost five years of this I hardly notice it anymore. I have serviced annually and for two weeks it is quiet.

Perhaps you are, the decelleration has a different sound than accelleration but iI sill would not call it scapping.
Ask anouther Par Car owner at the square to ride yours and come to a conclusion after compairing.

Thanks, Frank. I've never noticed this type of sound with other electric carts before (Club Car, EZ Go, etc), but perhaps they don't have a regenerative system. I'll have to compare it with another ParCar to know if this is "normal" or not.

I had the same scraping noise when I took my foot off the gas, I had PAR CAR pick up my cart and they had to change some bearings. I agree with Franks first answer - have the bearings checked

Scraping noise can never be good....I agree with Ron and Frank....get it checked quickly and by Par Car......you know it will only break down on a dark, rainy night when you not close to anything.
