Great Service at a Great Price
Going to and from Orlando International Airport is a no brainer if use the
services of Village Airport Van. They picked me up at my home here in the Village of Gilchrist on time, and the driver, I think his name was Denny, very gracious; and I was at the airport on time. The fare was only $35 per person. There phone number is 241-2000.

They are good if you are one person. The fare is $35 but the van that picks you up is $10 additional. When it's my wife and myself I use Jan Colucio a Villages resident 643-0833 who picks you up or drops you off for $80 in a Lincoln Navigator.

You are confusing the 2 companies, and combining them into 1.

I used to take The Villages Van as we are in Fernandina and there would not be many stops at others houses before hitting the road or for drop off. But now it is impossible not just because of the village stops which isn't really too much of a delay but they also make stops outside the Villages. This means that when you get in the van, you can get off the highway in Leesburg and toodle about and by the time you get to the destination, it is far longer than had you just taken the villages.net. :( It happened to me twice, off the highway in Leesburg somewhere for 1/2 hour!, and I stopped using them. A friend took them recently and told me it took them 2 1/2 hours from the airport. It's too bad because I liked their service but you just can't count on how long it will take.

Just rent a car from Enterprise the day before if you have two or more people going to the airports. Then you can travel on your own schedule and drop off the car at the airport.

If your trip is two weeks or less consider Park and Fly(many different pro viders, just Google Park and Fly)We use it quite often. You can enjoy a nice ride down the afternoon or evening before, enjoy a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant, have a good nights sleep and then get dropped of by the shuttle at OIA.

My husband travels approx. 135,000 miles a year and here's what we'd suggest

AAA to Z car Service (Andy) when both of us goes. Picks us up in luxury and drops us off..........$85.00 (alittle more but NO hassles ever)
Traveling for 7-10 days, do a hotel "stay and park" $110 per night and includes free parking (and you get to relax in your room until your next day flight
Traveling for 30 - 40 days, we're back to Andy
Two or three day trips (by himslef) Airport Parking $10 per day

just our thoughts

We live north of 466 and there are so many stops, it ends up taking much longer.
We now use the Villages Airport Shuttle that goes out of Lake Sumter Landing. They have added more vans to their schedule so there are more options in the schedule.

We have always used a car service for very long flights. Mostly those are 9- to 17-hour flights not counting waits between flights, and there's nothing like being picked up at the airport and collapsing into the back seat to be driven home. It's well worth the extra $15. If it's just a short flight and stay, we drive and park.

It would be nice if Villages Airport Van would split up their routes to north of Sumter Landing and south of Sumter Landing. We've only been here less that 3 years, and when we first used their service, it was great. Now....just too many stops over too large an area. We will still use them when it's really the best way (like 1 person flying at 6 am), but otherwise we will use The Villages Shuttle, I will drive hubby to Orlando (and shop!!), or we will stay in an Orlando hotel the night before and use their parking, etc.

Does anyone know of transportation to and from Orlando/Sanford airport? I saw a Village Shuttle schedule a couple of months ago that said they were planning on adding this route, but haven't seen anymore on that.

I agree it used to be nice before they started picking up in Leesburg. Now it takes too long so is not worth it. It used to be they were only for The Villages. Now they are greedy and think nothing of passenger having to wait while they pick up in Leesburg and other places. I won't use them anymore.

TV Shuttle goes to Orlando on a published schedule. We rent a car (one-way) to Sanford all the time. $75 and you are in control.

Is there a different phone for Jan? I just tried that number and it wasn't correct.

Are you expected to tip for a personal (not-shuttle) ride? How much?

We tip as we would tip a taxi driver.

Is the trip limited to two people, or does she pick additional people up?

I've never used Jan, but we use a guy, Charlie, who picks us up for $75 or $80. And you are the only one he transports. One of his drivers lives in TV and has a big, comfortable SUV. I can dig out his name and # if you want.

Also, they will go to Tampa or Sanford. And pretty much anywhere--for a price, of course.

I just called her and it works You might try it with the 352 before it.
352-643-0833 if it still doesn't work the business number is 352-561-4449

Tipping is up to you. I tip $10 which is the same when I use the Village shuttle from Lake Sumter with a cab ride from my house to Lake Sumter $5 each. She is a great lady. Her husband Bernie does my Lawn, Home Watch, and installed my Attic Stairs, Garage Door Openers and my cabinets in the garage all at a great price.

Thanks, everyone!

Maybe because this is a business trip that I don't want to go on in the first place, but it seems like tipping would fall under the rule that you don't tip the owner of a hair salon (although there's disagreement on that). The shuttle drivers are working for someone else and rely on tips to supplement their income, but if you're a Villager with a side business who runs people to the airport now and then in your own car, it seems like $80 one way is enough. Yeesh.

Ultimately, another $20 isn't going to make a difference to me, and I'm more than willing to pay twice the shuttle rate for the convenience and speed of a personal driver, but the tipping chaps my hide for some reason.

To tell you the truth I agree with you. The first 3 times I didn't tip for that reason. But her husband has done so much other work for me at a great price I tipped the last time. Guess I felt obligated :a20: For one person I don't think a tip would be necessary nor expected..

Kellyjam, I wonder if the poster meant do they just take you and whoever is going with you, or do they stop to pick up other people as well, like the Village Van does.

I would not want to pay their price if it's not a private ride each way.

It's a totally private service for you and your party. No other pick-ups.

Thanks. Good to know.

If we have a very long trip, or are going to be gone for a long time, we like to use a car service. On the way home from 24 to 30 hours in transit, it is nice to just plop into a car and have someone else do the driving.
