Saw in the paper this morning that applications are being accepted for floats for the St. Paddy's Day parade. Are we going to enter? If so, who is getting the application? Jan???
As I said previously, I have no clue what to do for a float but will be happy to help with the manual labor.

Wonder if the Villages' developers and/or management would allow a TOTV float? Maybe, if we try for a computer addicts float instead? Just a suggestion.

Tal, I think we should be honest and say who we are. If we try to sidestep it, my guess would be it would cause more problems and definitely stop us from ever being able to participate in any other parade, plus would give a bad image to none TOTVers. Let's face it, gossip is rampant in TV and I'd hate to see us being put in a negative light because of entering a parade under false pretenses.

Did not mean under "false pretenses" just that other people than the TOTV might get involved with this float too like the Villages Computer Club (VCC) and whatever other kind of computer fanatics you find in the Villages.
Learned about the VCC from a friend of a friend who is also a avid computer user and had been living in TV in 2006. I have been a VCC member for about 2 years. It is just $5 a year to join. I have been pretty much just a spectator there though.
Other Villages' computer fans look at these boards I am pretty sure. I learned about the Talk of the Villages web-site when Jan came to talk about it around July 27, 2007 at the Villages Computer Club http://www.thevillagescomputerclub.com/schedules.htm.

Thanks, KathieI. I think there are other VCC members who are also TOTV posters. Some of the individual Villages might also have informal computer clubs too.
I see a The Villages Macintosh User Group
in this list. http://www.doggedlydifferent.com/villages/activities.html
I just recall a lot of problems Jan has mentioned with advertisements for TOTV in the Villages Daily Sun and other kind of stuff. This is not a trick just making TOTV a little less the belle of the ball and just another person at the dance so to speak.

Want to know why we can have a St. Patrick's Day parade and not a Xmas parade or a Mardi Gras parade?

I wonder that too. Maybe the Irish groups handle most of the organizing and there are no Mardi Gras organizations. Just guessing BUT a Mardi Gras means parade to me so is missed here in TV.

Maybe they're afraid we females will go wild and bare our tops for beads at Mardi Gras? 1rnfl It does seem that the Irish-American clubs are actively involved in this parade, as the Italian-Americans were in the Columbus Day parade.
From what I can remember (sorry, was still pretty out of it at Xmas), there was a parade with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. If I'm wrong (moi wrong?? hmmm, interesting concept), I'm sure someone will speak and correct me.

You are correst RW:
Christmas Parade was at the Polo Grounds with vendors, and Mr & Mrs Claus. Moved it from the square cause it got to big for that confined area.

Tossing several beads at redwitch *WEG*
I would hate to think TOTV would be denied a float, seems anyone interested and sincere should be allowed

I hope TOTV can get a float either as TOTV or by getting other computer groups in the Villages interested in a computer users float. I would expect the number of heavy computer users here in TV is on par with the number of people who golf. Could be even higher for the computer fanatics.

I read in an AP story that some cities like Savanah, Atlanta, and others are not celebrating St Patricks day on March 17th because it occurs this year during Holy Week. Is the St Patricks day parade next month in TV on Monday March 17th??

If you guys want to do a float, I will be more than happy to participate. This forum has 4,000 members and I think it should have its OWN float. We should not be ashamed, nor should we be banned from having a float. We are not a subversive group....are we?
