Did some initial preretirement research 7 years ago (got the sales package and video tape) but had pretty much forgot about it until my sister moved here last summer. Brushed up on it again while doing some real estate research for her and then visited in January. My wife and I decided to begin again with the tour to see how it had grown and what's new. Ok we got excited after that, but that is what it's all about, right? Over the course of four days here, we fell in love with it, but really didn't have much time to share many of those feelings until our drive home. Thanks to a long drive, we shared our reactions, our likes and dislikes, and both sheepishly admitted we wanted to come here, but were afraid the other might not.

Once set, we shared our feelings with our kids (probably think we're crazy), thinned out our house and put it n the market. We also decided we would not bring ANY furniture. Why pay to move it? We didn't even know what we'd end up living in. We arranged a lease for 3 months in Virginia Trace (wonderful place), surprisingly got a terrific contract on our house in two days, and it seems like--poof, we left!

Now here on our third and final trip this year, we bought into the new Village of Dunedin, hopefully closing later this month (more than a month before our lease runs out). I guess we'll have two homes here for awhile. So many nice things about so many areas of The Villages.

Congratulations all around! You are living our dream and we hope to move BACK to the Villages within a year. We sold our patio villa in Bokeelia last January for a number of reasons. It looks like we will be ready to move back in a year. We biked all over Dunedin when it was just dirt. I can imagine our Iris somewhere there.

Best of luck.

Congratulations! Two homes could be a good thing. You can live in one while you take your time setting up the new one.

I hope you and your wife will enjoy a wonderful retirement here. It is so very nice. We bought a house today, and other than nerves we are so very happy!

Congrats to you both and having that one month lease on one while you move into another may be a good thing. We had friends that bought a pre-owned while they were in a three month rental. They COMPLETELY went through the pre-owned, paint, landscaping, brand new appliances etc. and moved right in at the end of the rental agreement.

Boomer Sooner!

Thanks! I don't suppose there are a lot of Sooner fans down here. Ordered my fast internet and DirecTV today, now researching for a new big screen TV for those games. We hope to go all the way this year. :)
