Anyone know of a good one nearby?? We do love our steaks but found Publix very expensive last year ...Thanks.
Belleview Meats, on 441/27 just north of where 301 comes in, is a good meat cutter, BUTT, the prices will 'smoke' you.
Their beef tenderloin was $17/lb last time I was there but you have to buy the whole 6# piece of meat. If you want just a piece or two, it becomes $19/lb. (pretty close to Publix price).
Possible the biggest difference is the beef comes from Nebraska (per recent article in one of the local papers).
I'd go back for a special occasion or need but in general Publix and Winn Dixie are good for every day.

thanks...pretty pricey as you say. I wonder if the meat at Costco is good...here in Canada it is except the ground beef (terrible). We plan to eat at home most of the time as we hate waiting and/or eating at 4:30 or 8 LOL.

Talked to Fresh Market a month ago.
They hope to be ready to open by the end of the year.
Can hardly wait.

I use the Fresh Meat Market in Wildwood. It's on 301 about a 1/4 mi. south of the Wildwood Mall. It is on the east side of the road. Great selection of beef, pork, and chicken. If you don't see what you want, just ask. They also have a large selection of bottled barbecue sauce.

Frannie, don't think there's a Costco around here but there is a Sam's Club in Ocala. I've found their meat to be pretty good.
Does anyone know if the butcher shops here have fresh beef liver? I hate this frozen junk.

Publix on rt 42 has fresh calves liver most of the time. Very tasty and melts in your mouth. I buy three or four packs and freeze them. It thaws and cooks great. As far as I am concerned the end product is better than those frozen packages they sell.

Thanks ...will checkout Belleview (espec for hubby) and Fresh Meat Market. There is a Costco in Altamonte Springs (about 40 miles away).

Costco has great meat at the Altamonte Springs store, but has been about a year since we were back over there. Went to the one in South Orlando the last time on the way back from the Airport. Didn't get any meat. Sweetbay has good meat, but we like Albertson's best of any around here.

Thank you for starting this thread. You have no idea how much this means to a carnivorous couple from the Midwest. I have made notes on this one.

If you are in the Tampa Bay area this is a very good butcher shop to go to in Palm Harbor-- Harr's Surf and Turf Market. http://local.yahoo.com/details?id=14664846
One of the reasons I like to return to Palm Harbor every few months. It is about a 20 minute drive from the Tampa Airport.

Our friends use the meat market in Wildwood and like it. We have not tried it yet.
