I am new to TV and was shocked to find that the people attending the beginner line dance classes already knew the dances. Maybe that has happened to you. Last night I went to the First Step basic level class with Lisa at Allamanda and it really was for people who have never line danced before. She also sent a link to her website with step by step instructions and demo videos. FYI -

I know what you mean. But you can still just jump in and learn on the fly. Nobody will think a thing of it. (Thank goodness...I've done it plenty...heheh.)
Also, there are a few "ultra-beginner" classes around.

You can also check out www.thevillagelinedancer.com. This site gives all the instructors and their various classes.
This subject is a pet peeve of mine as there does not seem to be a "standard" for each level - and there is nothing more embarrassing than standing in a "beginner" class and not knowing what to do! Ultra and basic beginner classes are for people who have never danced or who have two left feet, the beginner class is for people who know the names of the steps and can put them together to dance, and so on and so on up through the various high levels of dancing. Some people are natural dancers and can pick up steps very quickly, others have a little more trouble.
I would recommend you try Jean Brewer's Thursday morning 8:00am ultra beginner class at Laurel Manor - she is an excellent instructor with infinite patience. There is also a really good beginner class on Saturday morning at 8:30am at Seabreeze, the instructor (Cheryl) is a really laid back fun lady and her dances (for the most part) are easy to follow, and she always starts off by asking if she has any new to dance people in the class. Lisa has another basic beginner class on Wednesday nights at Pimlico. If you are new to dances I think you would enjoy these three classes.
