Yep, Comcast television went out about 4:30 here in Glenbrook (black panther territory). I called Comcast right away and the customer support tech said he would send out a service tech in a couple of days and charge me up to $60. I told him I was charging Comcast $20 per hour for every hour the service was out. He asked why. I told him because I could. He voluntarily said he would adjust the bill for one day's service. I told him okay but I was still charging Comcast $20 per hour. It is fun messing with their minds since their replies are all on script cards.

I actually cheated & called the TTY line to find out the REAL story. Major outage from feeder in Lake County. Currently 6 personnel on site. Per Comcast Rep, notes state this is an unplanned outage with no ETR (estimated time of repair). I guess those 28 yrs in telecom industry do come in handy at times....and like the OP, I'm not happy to lose all service on a rainy Friday evening.
And NO, we will not get "automatic" credit for outage. You have to ASK for credit!!!

Whats new? In the Michigan market they used to run ads stating that Dish would go out every time there was a storm. On occasion it did for a few minutes but NEVER as long as
Comcrash was down. Nothing has changed here in
Florida I see. Loving Centurylink!

In my 13 years here this has been the first time there has been a significant outage.

Maybe it was a lightning strike or something.

No reason to rail on Comcast.

As I stated on Facebook, Comcast is out until 9pm, according to their website, so to spite them,,, I'm going out dancing. It was a good idea and I had a great time.

On my way to Lady Lake, passed 3 or 4 Comcast trucks in pouring rain running some new lines on 25A. Felt sorry for them. Came home at 11pm, trucks were still there but service has been restored.

Good job Comcast and I had a fun night!!

When I called Comcast around 9 pm, they told me the repair estimate was extended until around 10:12 pm. This was because lightning was making it dangerous for their workers.

Well, I am done with Comcast! What is more important? Their worker's safety or me being able to watch a re-run of "Modern Family"?

I received a $3.00 credit for the outage based on "basic tv" and questioned aout the other services, i,e, HBO, Starz, and HD and was told that I am getting a creit for the "basic".

Perhaps, a lawyer who knows his business should start a class action lawsuit, of which I will be willing to be a plaintiff. In addition, why do we have to call them for credit when they know full well who their customers are and had not received the services paid for. It should be an automatic credit.

How many of the subscribers actually call to get the credit they deserve and are entitled? This lack of service is a windfall for the cable company to the detriment of the user.

As noted above, I believe that a class action suit may in fact be worth millions and even put a stop to this nonsense. Remeber how Comcast charges us for every little incident such as having to send a repairman to fix their equipment.
A class action lawsuit worth millions for a few hours of no cable ? Really ??

We should all call to get credit. Mine was only $1.83 but at least we go on record as not being pleased with the extended outage Friday. The number to call is 800-266-2278

Mikeod

OK. Let's say the outage was 6 hours long. That amounts to less than 1% of the hours in the month (30 days at 24 hours = 720 hours). Even if your monthly bill is $200, your credit will be less than $2. When I consider how much time it takes to navigate the phone tree, my time is worth more than that. I also don't think Comcast would even notice if 10,000 customers asked for a credit due to an outage. And all this supposes the outage was their fault. Perhaps a failure due to the electrical activity we've had recently?

We have really gotten spoiled to technology. 6 hours with no TV during an intense electrical storm and the sky is falling? What did people do back in the dark ages 50 years ago?

it is not 50 years ago, in this day an age there are some of us that make our living via the internet, and using information via our cable connection! one mans toy an uneeded luxury is the other mans able to survive!

Comcast Internet wasn't down at my home yesterday and if being connected was a requirement for survival, I'd have redundancy.

My Verizon smartphone allows me to use the device Asa 4G LTE hotspot (30+mb down/10 up. Maybe you should look into that....

It is a crisis if your phone is part of the internet service and they tell you your service appointment will be in 4 days. I fired Comcast and got BrightHouse installed the next morning.

By the way, Comcast knew my wife has a chronic health condition that might require assistance anytime.

If you are not a Comcast fan, remember that they are involved in a merger that could result in them having more than 50% of the US market.

Consumer Reports is even against the merger.

Here is the Consumer Report comment:

Enough is Enough: No Comcast merger!
We have real momentum in our fight against Comcast's plan to dominate our cable TV and Internet. And you can be a part of it!
Take a minute to watch how consumers crashed Comcast's annual shareholder meeting to oppose it's takeover of Time Warner Cable.
Then add your name to our petition against the merger. More than 400,000 Americans have already signed on -- saying NO WAY to letting one company dominate what we see, how fast we see it, and what we pay!
