I have had people from the outside ask me:
How many people live here?
I say 70 to 80K.
What is the average income?
I tried looking this up and found answers ranging from 40K to 80K.
How many buffalo are there?
I usually just say "a bunch"
Does anyone know the answers?

I have heard 67,000 residents--excluding buffalo.... Have no idea how many buffalo, but 'a bunch' should be reasonably accurate! There have been various postings in the past about median income which are searchable on TOTV's site and likely other places as well; I frankly don't know. Sorry can't be too much help....

Last I heard was $72,000 a year average.

On what do they base residents? Homeowners? I have wondered about this since not all residents are full time and keep their primary residence somewhere else. Actual residents vary according to season.

I'm guessing the IRS may know but I doubt that they release these figures. Or do they :dontknow:

The income question came up before, and as I recall there was a sense the numbers came from mortgage applications, which skewed the numbers as it ignored the folks who haven't disclosed any income information to TV.
This link might help answer some of the questions:

According to this, TV "residents" (which could include folks like me who own, still work and don't live in TV yet) have income more than double the FL state average. Seems a little high to me, but who knows. Makes a good draw for any businesses looking to locate here.

Ve haf vays to make you tell us!!
According to the POA bulletin, the developer has people who go through your trash at night to review all financial data. My neighbor's cousin's brother's wife was told by the guy who cuts her grass (or hair?) that the whole reason for the recycling program was to get better information on residents. And he said the reason the VHA wants a post office for the developer is that TV wants to read your mail and the Lady Lake postmaster won't let them do it. We are filing a class action lawsuit to make them stop.

These numbers are old on this site. http://www.city-data.com/city/The-Villages-Florida.html "Estimated median household income in 2005: $44,800 (it was $42,542 in 2000)"
I heard 70 or so buffalo in TV but do not have a source for that??

Does it really matter how MANY buffalo there are? If you have 1 you have a conversation piece.
The reaction I usually get, "You have WHAT in your new retirement community"?

They could be elephants? Crocodiles? Alligators? Donkeys? Cows? Llamas? Camels?
One of the casino owners in Nevada had a heard of buffalo which I believe he used for one of his restaurants? Think it was one of them at Lake Tahoe but am not sure about that. :dontknow:

Actually, they taste like very lean beef. I've had a buffalo filet and it was one of the best pieces of steak I've ever eaten (at the Flagstaff House on a hill overlooking Boulder)
