Have you seen the Best Picture for 2007 No Country for Old Men?
They kept on talking about the importance of hope at the Oscars last night and that movie No Country for Old Men kind of left me with a feeling of despair. Liked Once so much more as well as many other movies from 2007.
Last year's (2006) winner The Departed was also a kind of a real downer of a movie.
As art goes I can see why No Country for Old Men won, but just wonder what some others think of this movie?
No Movie for Old Men and Women :joke:

Sorry, we haven't gone to the movies in years because the films they make today are too depressing.

You should see Once, Hairspray and Enchanted. These 3 movies are quite uplifting. Amazing Grace is also a very meaningful tale which also tells the story of the origin of the song of the same name. Believe all but Enchanted are out on DVD.

We haven't seen this year's Academy Award winning film No Country for Old Men. In fact, before watching the Academy Awards (wasn't Jon Stewart a terrible host?) which we ordinarily wouldn't even bother doing except that friends invited us to watch with them and most of the evening was spent just chatting (and nibbling...), I had never even HEARD of the winning film! Talk about embarrassing.... '-)

Lin, you might want to try Juno, it was rather fun and quirky.

:agree: Agree that Juno is a fun time at the movies. It is almost up there with Sideways as one of the most enjoyable times I have had at the movies in the past few years.

As soon as No Country for Old Men makes it to the Blockbuster on-line rental service I will add it. I did not like Hairspray the first time.
I quit doing theaters a long time ago. Imagine not letting me bring my 6 pack of Bud in.

I didn't see No Country For Old Men, but did see There Will Be Blood. Daniel Day Lewis really deserved the Best Actor win - he was amazing. The end of the movie left me dazed.
NCFOM will be on video soon, and like ZCaveman, I'll rent it. I saw 3 movies in the theater last year - There Will Be Blood, The Bucket List and Charley Wilson's War. I'll shoot for 3 more this year!

I saw No Country. I thought the first 75% of the movie was great. However it had one of the worst endings I have ever seen. I just sat there stunned , waiting for the rest of the movie.
