Purifier on Air Handler

We had Sun Kool here today to do annual maintenance on our air handler unit. When the technician removed the front panel, he noticed some mold growing on the unit itself. He claimed that he cannot eliminate the mold that is already and because of the humidity here in Florida that mold will just continue to grow throughout the entire system, eventually getting into the ducts, etc. He recommended we attach a purifier to the system, to the tune of $1000+, to keep the mold in check. Has anyone had a purifier installed on their HVAC unit or done any research on mold in the unit and stopping its growth? Thanks.

Call Sun Kool back and ask for a visit from a supervisor. If he/she says the same thing ask another company. There are ways to get rid of the mold, including UV light, etc.

Sun Kool gave us the option of the $1000 device or a UV device that was way cheaper. We chose the UV. I don't remember exactly how much it was because they applied three coupons to bring price down.
