We are looking for a reasonably priced groomer for our two Golden Retrievers. I know that there are lots of groomers around TV but most seem to work smaller dogs and don't seem know how to handle/deal with the larger breads.
We are just looking for bathing, basic grooming, and nails.
Any suggestions?

I take my golden to Joann at Pet Lodge and Spa in Leesburg (441 S, past the airport). She does a better job on him than others I have tried. Nobody so far is as good as our groomer in Michigan, but oh well...

She charges $65. That's a little less than we paid in Michigan. I give her a tip. She really likes goldens. Oh, and you get a free day's day care at Pet Lodge on the day or your appointment. They do great day care. Our golden loves everyone there.

Vanity Fur on 441/27 does a fabulous job on all dogs. When they were done with our Irish Setter, she looked just as good as when she was groomed by the breeder! Prices are more than reasonable, too.

One of the things I hate about some groomers is when they put your dog in a kennel before and after grooming him. I have had our golden to groomers who let him sit there all day (because he's not a yapper) while they're grooming all the little dogs first. I have had appointments for noon and not been able to pick him till after 5. Thus I have eliminated some groomers, as I refuse to do this to my dog. Our groomer in Michigan let him hang around outside the kennel with her till I picked him up. Plus, he was never there for more than two hours.

The reason I like Pet Lodge is that he is out playing with the other dogs until his grooming turn comes, and after he's done he is put back in the playroom till I come to pick him up. Consequently he loves to go there. And Joann does a good job. It's worth it to me to go the extra distance so he won't feel like he's in a jail cell all day.

I take our golden boy to Pet Smart in the Best Buy shopping area on 441. Jessica does a great job with him. The price is reasonable - I believe $55. He's only there about two hours and comes home with a bandana and a report card :). I really like the fact that she rounds his nails which is something that was not done up north.

I use Bone Crazy Dog Grooming on 466A going towards Wildwood. Although I have small and med dog, I have seen very large and furry babies coming out including a collie, standard poodles, a setter and more. It is a small house and you can see inside over the half door. Reasonable and it takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours....
